A different take? For me altogether more in what I think to be the Dark Ages spirit of the story..conversions, comquest Normans, Gripping Beast and Wargames factory, all on the one piece..Banners by David of NBA..these two printed out a bit murky but I do like the effect. These are based for Impetus and represent two units of Gondorian cavalry

Very nice work! A good look for Gondor.

Cheers, TC.

Interesting look – I thought of the Gondorians as a touch more plate-armoured, but given the way that most people think of the horseman of Rohan (very similar to these excellent figures) makes a lot of sense

Cardinal Hawkwood14 Sep 2012 5:01 a.m. PST

Well it is a Dark Age interpretation, not a lot of plate around then (if any)..I would like some lamelar or scale but not much around in plastic at the moment. I was never happy with much of the Peter Jackson's interpretation

Landorl14 Sep 2012 5:36 a.m. PST

I agree. Peter Jackson doesn't fit with how I picture Gondor. I have always used Byzantines for Gondor.

These look great!

exactly Lamdorl I am of the same opinion, Gondor should be more like 9th century Byantines!

I have seen these on the workshop table for some time, good to see them finished Cardinal!

I like those a lot. I love seeing Dark Age interpretations of LotRs – the films were good, but not all the races worked for me (liked the Rohan stuff, and the orcs, and early Numenor/Elves).

Mind you, I can definitely pass on the GW knights of Dol Guldor – what a mess.

So more DA LotRs please :-)

As a card carrying Hobbithead I like very much. always thought I 'd use Byzantines for Gondor when I did the War of the Ring too.

Cardinal Hawkwood15 Sep 2012 12:27 a.m. PST

I actually think Gondor is 9th Century Frankis, with a sort of elvish patina.

more to come, a lot of wip stuff..this is all that is painted so far.
