The Jackson Gamers gathered today, Labor Day, to test a new variant of The Sword and the Flame. Called The Sword and Secession, it is an American Civil War game designed to be used in the many small actions fought throughout the war between cavalry raiders, landing parties, foraging parties, and various small units. The battle report is at the Jackson Gamers new web site: link Jim |

Are 20 infantry still considered a platoon, or are they something else? This might be a good set for my 54s. |

There was a variant done in The Courier called "Tall White Mansions and Little Shacks" which was an ACW version. Eric |

Looks very interesting--I'd like to hear more about how the rules develop. I'd also be interested in a variant rule set, if it were ever available for sale. Visions of Glorieta Pass are swirling in my head! Grelber |

Oh, now, that's a good question. I'm going to have to check. I don't even know if I have that issue anymore. Eric |

Grelber, have you ever made the trip to the Glorieta battlefield? It was there a few years ago and was truly amazed at how different it was that I expected based on the maps I had seem. When they show a hill on the map, I really didn't expect to see such high cliff. Maybe it was because I spent so much time at Gettsburg when I was young. Vince |

Sounds interesting. But, according to the Jackson Gamers' website, the rules seem only to have been playtested --twice! |

The Sword and the Flame ACW variant called "Tall White Mansions and Little Shacks" was printed in The Courier #61 magazine. This issue is available from Wargame Vault as a PDF. |
