So I'm building a battle barge for Wyldewood. A wooden tray will be the base, and it will have a large tree in the middle as the sail. What I need is a BIG -- up to 12" high, perhaps -- tree, oak or some such, large leaves that can catch the wind. If possible I'd like the individual leaves to be distinguishable, as opposed to clump foliage. If necessary I can make a trunk out of twisted wire and add plastic leaves from floral stems. But before I undertake what wouyld be a huge project, any ideas of what might work instead? |

Try a model railway magazine – there are specialist model tree makers. Tony |

You might be able to find a ceramic tree that would work. I have seen them at general hobby stores. |

With Halloween coming up, there will be all kinds of multi-branched trees out there soon. |

For big trees like that, I like to dig up tree roots. Model railroad and armor model accessories shops can sell you very realistic sets of leaves that you can glue on. |

I found a great looking plastic bonsai tree I tricked up to use for my Bushido games a while back. Really wish I could get a couple more, but the store I found them at was closing. (And, well, the only good thing they had was this tree, so no wonder.)
I need to dull down the leaves a bit. A quick spray of dullcoate ought to do it. |

Tabletop World do a nice ( albeit dead) tree as part of their graveyard set, which I believe is available as a separate item. Its cast in resin in 3 parts and is very well detailed. Hope this helps. |

Scenic Express may have something for you. A big selection. link They have this 5" live oak tree. They act like sails in a hurricane! My house is surrounded by them! For 15mm figures it would be about 40' high. You need it for 15mm or 28mm?
A 12" tree would be something only in O scale. Average price for that is about $40. USD Scenic Express sells them but no pic. Check Walthers.com as well. You could make one with twisting wire and putty, but Lord help you if you have carpal tunnel! |

That scenic express oak might be just the thing. I REALLY don't want to do twisted wire myself. |

doc mcb: That scenic express oak might be just the thing.I REALLY don't want to do twisted wire myself. I am with you on that (twisting wire), did 100s (and 100s) of those things in an "earlier life". No more
Thanks to all for the links and ideas.

You might check aquarium shops as well. The Petsmart near me has some decent-looking fake bonsai-type trees in their aquarium decoration section. |
