I just picked up 4 of the Macross re-releases to use in Gruntz and it got me fired up to do Battletech in 15mm using the Gruntz ruleset. Now I need more Mechs. Big Mechs at that. Anybody have pics of Mechs that are over 35mm but under 100mm? How about pics of something you've converted? Anything other then Gundams for cheap mech to hack up? |
Chef Lackey Rich | 27 Aug 2012 4:57 p.m. PST |
Ravenstar's probably a good one to check. GZG's got a very modular one (or three, depending on your point of view) that should be about the right size. |

Check out the Gruntz trade forum, some mechs there that might suit yer fancy. |

Hobby Link Japan has a bunch of Bandai 1/100 scale destroids from Macross, they were pretty darn cheap last time I looked. |

I was just thinking today of doing battletech with clix using gruntz |

How about Iron Wind Metals Museum scale mechs? link |
BigNickR | 27 Aug 2012 6:29 p.m. PST |
the "exo squad" branded robotech mecha are pretty cheap and decent if you want to expand the robotech

TMP link The auction is over, but what are you looking for? Next to a Khurasan Siler for scale.
Go ahead, look around my photobucket account. See anything that strikes your fancy? link The Mecha you see in those photos are the same size as those Armored Core/Front Mission pieces that was linked to in the response above. I'd wager the Macross stuff you acquired is the same size as most of those models too. PS, Thanks Ski for the plug. PPS last edit. The guy that sculpted a few of these is the same guy that just just sculpted the IWM Battle Master in Museum scale, and the Gruntz Mecha over at CMG. |

If you want to game 15mm Battletech LordNth has a few mech models readily available, 15mm Battletech has started to catch on within their community mainly due to these high quality privately produced models. |

Amazon has a box set of the 1/200 scale Dougram models which are perfect for what you want as many of the old battletech designs were lifted from the Dougram series. link
Lord Nth's stuff is also quite good I own several of his models :)
Also run a search for macross gashapon on ebay and it'll turn up a good range of models in that size. |
Schulein | 27 Aug 2012 9:14 p.m. PST |
Mechwarrior clix should be available for next to nothing on ebay. |
Moqawama | 27 Aug 2012 9:20 p.m. PST |
Lord Nth, let me understand, you PRODUCE those? And sale price is around 20 bucks plus shipping? If so, I kind of REQUIRE your email address! :D |
khurasanminiatures | 27 Aug 2012 9:41 p.m. PST |
The L-HAC can be 99mm tall. In the upper lefthand photo below, you can just see a corporate marine on the ground
. And it's $19.99 USD, cheaper then some mechs 25% smaller.

LordNth, do you have an ETA for the Shadowcat? |
deviantsaint | 28 Aug 2012 2:06 p.m. PST |
Thanks for all the suggestions. Most of those I knew about but figured they would be to small. I have a TON of the clicky Mechwarrior stuff and while it works for 15mm, some of it is too small or laughable (Atlas). I'm pretty sure the Tomahawk (Warhammer) is going to be 5-6" tall and it's a heavy so assault stuff will have to be bigger. Lord Nth, are those the Mechs that Spaceman Spiff usually does? Can you give me sizes in inches? Are those N scale or 1/100? Are they really $20 USD? Khusaran, that Mech will be ordered on Friday. |
Moqawama | 28 Aug 2012 4:40 p.m. PST |
I checked the price of LordNth sale on the gruntz forum, actually the prices are more around 25 USD, however that's still interesting for mechs of such high quality
I'd like to know how to contact him. |
deviantsaint | 28 Aug 2012 5:08 p.m. PST |
Does anybody know how the AT-43 or Dust models scale up? Needs me a Raven
|
LordNth | 28 Aug 2012 7:18 p.m. PST |
Wow so many questions. Moqawama Yes I produce these in limited run quanties. The thread you found at Gruntz.biz has listed what I have. I try my best to keep that one (and it's older sister thread at Lords of the Battlefield) up to date. Glenn, I have to get the Master from Orko_one. He's busy with a real life job, planning a big vacation. Iron Wind Miniatures caught up with him at Origins and they had him do a figure before GenCon. So it may take a while to get the Shadow Cat (and it will be small for 15mm) Deviantsaint, Yes. Spiff gets one of everything I do. He helps out with advice, modeling and painting. He gets resin toys. It's because of Spiff and I that Orko_one sculpts such detailed designs. Yes they are a bit on the high price point to what we are used to from 15mm manufacturers. But search that size resin model kits and what you get is way cheaper than those. To be fair I have a request to a fellow TMP'er to compare what I have vs some other "Big Boys" Hopefully an honest and fair review will be in my email as soon as I can get them out to him. Contact me through PM here, or at the forums I mentioned. LordNth [at] comcast [dot] net is another way. |

A comparison with models from Khurasan, CMG, Ravenstar and myself.
And Deviantsaint, I forgot to tell you the size. The biggest one is 3.4 inches tall. They average just over 2" wide. |
daibaka | 29 Aug 2012 2:36 a.m. PST |
What are those two mechs at the very front of the last picture? They look like they'd scale well to 15mm, at least by basic eyeball comparison with the Gruntz mech in the background. |
Glenn M | 29 Aug 2012 3:03 a.m. PST |
They are the Highlander models and are very nice. I am actually very excited to get mine assembled and put to use. |

I've been using collectable Gundam miniatures as my mechs. Not to everyone's taste, but I like them
link
|
AVAMANGO | 29 Aug 2012 6:53 a.m. PST |
I just located a wealth of those Gundam collectable figures on E-Bay direct from Japan, shipping is approx £8.00 GBP to the UK for anything from 4-8 miniatures which work out at roughly about 70p each and i like the fact he has the same figures in different poses, the guy is selling them in batches of 4-8 figures at a time, here is a link to his shop if anyone is interested. auction |

ar'nt those gundam figures kinda rubberie? they look good. |
deviantsaint | 29 Aug 2012 4:11 p.m. PST |
You do some beautiful Mechs LordNth. I've been drooling over them since my Lords of the Battlefield days. |
Eclipsing Binaries | 30 Aug 2012 2:08 a.m. PST |
These may be of interest if you like the Dougram mechs
auction They're 5-6cm in height. Only problem is that they're blind boxed so you may not get what you want. |
AVAMANGO | 30 Aug 2012 2:19 a.m. PST |
I have had most of these Dougram figures at some stage or another over the years and they are nice little sculpts of the classic mechs, but as pointed out they are small and if your a bit of a purist of 'Fangs of the Sun' then these are not for you unless you want to use them for 1/300th scale Battletech in which case they are would be perfect, but if your not overly fussed about true scale then they would make great looking small mechs or even Battle armour in 15mm scale. |
Moqawama | 30 Aug 2012 4:30 a.m. PST |
Dougram was SUCH a great show! I discovered it late, but I think that in the military/political background it is surely superior to Gundam. Too bad the charachters are a bit bland while those of Gundam are much deeper. |
LordNth | 30 Aug 2012 11:38 a.m. PST |
You want to find Dougram 6cm-9cm in height. AvaMango is correct. I bought a full box of those years ago. Sold the whole thing. No where close to use full for 10mm let alone 15mm -unless your planning them for power armor types. What you would looking for is something like this auction Soft PVC plastic, the barrels will be bent. I got mine years ago for $9. USD I've been seeing them increase every year. $30 USD for 4 + 1 sitting. Yeash. |
deviantsaint | 30 Aug 2012 12:45 p.m. PST |
How would the 1/200 Dougram work? I keep looking at that boxset on Amazon and will buy it if they will work with the 1/100 Macross. Hoping for 3-4" tall. |
Sargonarhes | 30 Aug 2012 4:03 p.m. PST |
Let me see here Eclipsing. The one was a Gundam EZ-8 the other one looks like it's could be a RX-78-2 variant. And checking your link I know the Gundam GP-02 with MLRS when I see it. |

Hmmmmmmm

deviantsaint | 30 Aug 2012 5:39 p.m. PST |
Just a couple quick little comparision shots.
First one is with a couple Khurasan minis and a 1/72 Panther.
Second one is with a clicky Atlas (not the best chioce I know) and a 1/200 Marauder. As a quick side question, does anybody know a way to get that Marauder apart? Bad gaps and really needs to be glued
He's not as big as I was afraid he was going to be. The Tomahawk should be a little shorter but the 1/200 Marauder is big. I also bought the 1/200 Monster which looks like it will scale up nice. I think in 1/100 it would be the size of a small city though. |

Those old Exo-squad toys are a very good scale, below is one that i based and re-painted a few years ago.

LordNth | 31 Aug 2012 2:41 p.m. PST |
Send me the link to that 1/200 Dougram. I'll let you know right away if it's something that would work. For that Officer Pod, assuming it's glued and not just snapped together, I'd put in modeling putty into the cracks and scrap extra off with a sharp knife. Lightly sand with fine grit paper. Prime, and go. I have that same Officer pod so if you want pictures with anything LMK. I have a 1/285th Monster (with a 1/200th on the way), yes the 1/100 would be a small city or a piece of terrain to play on. |
deviantsaint | 31 Aug 2012 4:19 p.m. PST |
Sorry, that should have read 1/100 Marauder. He's big. The lower portion of his leg is as tall as the Longbow. Still, I think he's only going to stand around 6". Little Marauder isn't glued at all. I just can't get him apart without screwing up the edges of the pieces. Guess putty will fix that but some of the pieces will be a PITA the smooth once together. Lovin' the Warhammer there AvaMango. He's next of the table once the Longbow is. JBR, I really wish you would get back into sculpting. You seem to have the eye for design that I like. Very sci-fi with just enough reality

Well I know you said Battletech, but have you considered converting the various GW walkers? They are all around 75mm tall, and are mostly scale free
