Anyone know anything about the historical wargaming scene in Heferordshire. Saw a quote on the web that it's " a wargaming desert"! I understand that there is some GW activity, but not really my scene. Have an offer in on a house in the NW of the county, close to Wesh border, but quite willing to drive an hour or so for the right group. |

How about Peterborough? I will be moving there for work next week and will play anything historical. |

It depends what type of games you are looking for and how far you want to travel. I have a friend who moved to Ludlow a few years ago, he mainly played Ancients when he lived near me. There is a big Ancients and Renaissance tournament in Usk each January link where you might find some people from the more local area. I think there are a number of people and clubs in the Gloucester area. |

Ahh, the classic Herefordshire / Hertfordshire mix-up
. Not sure I can think of anywhere closer than Worcester Wargames Club, sorry. |

(OT but Peterborough is fine for gaming, lots of activity within a 30 mile radius) |

Hi, I'm in (north eastern) Herefordshire, and have so far found one other gamer. We do AVBCW, so not a million miles off of WW2 and have always been tempted by DAK/8th Army north Africa stuff. I also have a group of friends in the Malvern/Worcester area but they're mostly Fantasy wargamers, with occasional interest in historicals. Giles. |

Doesn't help when I type " Herefordshire" incorrectly! ( pesky iPad)? Sorry, First Brigade. |

P'boro is in Cambridgeshire
I think we all know that much, but: "How about Peterborough?" isn't an entirely unreasonable response from a guy who's obviously misread the OP as Hertfordshire – bit of a distance, but not unthinkable

FirstBrigade – There is a very active club in Huntingdon, 20 miles from Peterborough with between 30 to 50 members meeting every thursday evening in the town centre. We play many historical periods including ancients, medieval, Seven Years war, napoleonic, ACW, ECW and WW2, as well as many others. We have members travel as far as 25 miles. Details of the club are at hdws.org.uk |

My daughter lives in Hereford and the wife and I visit quite often – we'll be there this weekend. I'd be interested in gaming opportunities in the area. |

There are active clubs in Shrewsbury and Telford which depending on your location should be reachable within an hour. I don't have much info on the Shrewsbury group but try contacting Alan at Questing Knight Games in Wellington, he is very approachable and will be able to give you the skinny on the Telford Club. If you are willing to travel a little further for your wargaming Shropshire's smallest wargames club meet infrequently in the Oswestry area, we do however like to do things on a grand scale when we do get together. See this link for some idea of what to expect: link Our main periods of activity are the Hellenistic era, ECW/ TYW, War of Independence & South American Wars of Liberation. Hope you find this useful Rgds HGA. |

Hobgoblin: That looks very interesting, which rules and scales do you play? Anyone doing Shako, Armati, Crossfire? I am flexible though and I have plenty of figures so look forward to coming down. |

This thursday I am running a 28mm black powder napoleonic game but have also recently used lasalle. We play 28mm SYW using maurice, 28mm ancients and medievals using WAB as well as hail Caesar, ECW using various rules and WW2 using crossfire. There is the occasional game of FOW. This is also sometimes done in 54mm, either Eastern Front or western front 1944/1945. The scale varies for crossfire from 28mm to 54mm. Recent other games that I have observed have been 28mm ACW, 15mm AK47 Republic, 15mm ancients (dont know what rules), 28mm Peter Pig Bloody Barons, Command and colours ancients and napoleonics using the board game or multiplayer games with 28mm figures on 5" hexes. I have played shako in the past but gave up with the 2nd edition as I could not read the rules with the text printed over black and white illustrations. You will probably find takers for most games including board games. There is also an active blood bowl league in its 3rd or 4th season as well as WFB & WH40k and quite a few members have recently been getting into Dystopian wars. |

Excellent, loads of stuff there that I would like to get involved with. Can I have your email so that I can let you know when I will be coming? |

Back to the original location, there is a good 'Historical' club (ancients, WoR, ECW, Naps, ACW, WWI, WWII and more) on the northern edge of Gloucester (about 40 minutes from Hereford). Bob. |

Hello Dave, I've posted this on the other thread re clubs in Ludlow as well. I'm in Ludlow and would be glad to meet up for a game – in fact I'm the person James Hamilton referred to in one of the posts above. I've only just joined TMP and I'm not sure if it's possible to PM somebody; my email is: steve dot duncodin at btinternet dot com. Steve |

By the way, I'm not averse to playing periods other than Ancient and Medieval, I just don't have any toys for them! |

Must be nice! Complaining about a wargaming desert in a postage stampsized chunk of real estate! Here in Canada it's concidered next door if you have a four hour drive for a game! |
