I'm thinking of adding an Imperial German Airship to my tiny German force to give them a bit of umph! until I could up with suitable German tridpods.Which by the way after tests I still have found anything that works.

Anyway, does anyone have and ideas for conversions or buy off the shelf airships that has or could have added to it a gondola suitable scale wise for 25/28mm.

I think it would make the over all length at about 40mm?

Which ever way you look at it, airships are BIG. In 28mm, a even a small airship would be well over 1m long!

From Reverisco. It is paper so you will have to be motivated, but the kits does look nice when completed.

Zeppelin L-59
Our all paper kit is 30 x 7 x 4.5 inches in 1/64th scale, compatible with 28mm figures.
Price: $25.00 USD
The war machine that wasn't – a great conversation piece! In the autumn of 1917 the Zeppelin L-59 was sent on a one-way trip to Africa, stocked with tons of medical supplies, machine guns, ammunition, bush knives, even sewing machines. It was designed to be disassembled and its parts made into: tents, bandages, gas bags, sleeping bags, huts, boots, and even a wireless tower. The only non-essential cargo was a case of wine to celebrate its arrival in Africa. But the wily British sent a series of false radio messages which convinced the German Captain that the Germans in Africa had surrendered. So the L-59 turned around and went home. It did, however, make a record flight of over 4500 miles. Kit is 30 x 7 x 4.5 inches designed for use with 28mm figures. The kit includes four engine compartments and the control car.

According to this,
link
the wily British merely claimed responsibility, that the area needed for the Zep to touch down wasn't held by the local troops.

Still, a fascinating story I don't recall hearing before.

Plenty of battle fodder that: the fight for the flatlands around Mahenge, the planned destination of the airship; the attempted landing after the a-historical successful defense; the arrival of the aerial gunboat Aphid…

Well, it IS an SF board, isn't it? ;->=

PS 'Reviresco'. I'm always spelling JUST as you did. Best to say 'http://www.tin-soldier.com/'.

As its VSF I don't think you'd need it to be as big as 1 metre?

Thanks for the imput gents please keep it coming :)

Well it depends on how "gritty" you want your VSF to be and thus the technology, and also the degree of selective compression you are willing to accept.

An "airship/Zeppelin" implies the use of a lighter-than-atmosphere gas (even on another planet) and that means in turn a large envelope to contain it.

Lego had one. or you can look at the Wayback machines copy of the Major General's site for a pop bottle conversion.

As others have noted, these things are huge and must be compressed to fit on any reasonable gaming table.

DL – Have you looked at converting the Ironclad Steam walker #7?

Use a plastic cola bottle cap and washer for the gearbox and Bob's yer uncle.

Slightly over a foot long looks fine for a small zeppelin.

Which Revel Model is this? The Hindenberg?

Some inspiration from LAF:

That LAF layout is amazing! I've often thought of doing a _Crimson Skies_ boarding action set on top of a zep's bag -- which would essentially be the whole table -- featuring crash-landed planes, AA positions, crew popping out of concealed hatches, etc.

nickinsomerset28 Aug 2012 1:40 a.m. PST

cybrt,

not sure, but I think it was a modern ship and def not the Hindenburg,

Tally Ho!
