This Manual is already on my 11-year old daughter's Xmas wish list. And on mine, too! The 'Leviathan' books are a fantastic series, and though aimed at teens, are enjoyable at a number of age levels. |

Glad you had enjoy it boys." Leviathan is a sea monster referred to in the Bible. In Demonology, the Leviathan is one of the seven princes of Hell and its gatekeeper. The word has become synonymous with any large sea monster or creature. In literature (e.g., Herman Melville's Moby-Dick) it refers to great whales, and in Modern Hebrew, it means simply "whale." It is described extensively in Job 41 and mentioned in Isaiah 27:1. In this case, the name of a ship. Amicalement Armand |

The Leviathan book is the first in a series of Teen/Young Adult novels that pit the Darwinists (biological/genetic engineering) versus the Clankers (mechanical engineering). The Brits have settled on Darwin, while the Prussians/Germans have gone for mechanical engineering. It's set somewhere around WW1, IIRC. |

Here's the trailer for the first book in the series: YouTube link The two pics in the original post are of the top part of an Austro-Hungarian steam walker, and the bridge of the British airbeast (read "flying whale airship"!) 'Leviathan'. 'The Manual of Aeronautics' will be an illustrated companion showing the various characters, machines and beasts from the trilogy. |

Fun trilogy; I highly recommend it. The books are: Leviathan Behemoth Goliath Featuring a plucky British girl heroine, a stout German princeling hero, flying beasts, flying machines, walking tanks, walking land "battleships", mechanical and biological constructions of all description, political intrigue, a bit of mystery, lots of adventure, plenty of suspense, a dash of young romance, and eventually Nikolai Tesla. Bizarre? Yes. Enjoyable? Definitely. And eminently gameable, too! Scott Westerfeld is the author. |
