I have been thinking about getting the Blue Stars space gaming mat from Corsec. Does anyone have any expeience with them? What do folks think? Thanks for your advice. Bill |

I've used them and find them to be, to further belabor the word for our UK cousins' amusement, awesome. Ambush Jim owns several and swears by them. Highly recommended! Best, Shawn. |

I have seen these mats upclose and personal and they are incredible!!! |

I LOVE my CorSec mats. I have a Hubble deep space mat for Firestorm Armada that the local club guys drool over. I also have a 1/285 ground scale river crossing and lunar surface mats in my collection that are equally stunning. The quality of the reproduction and the fact that they are backed with a second layer of fabric is what makes them great. |

Expensive, but undeniably a case of getting what you pay for. They put my el cheapo Chessex felt mats to shame. |

I have this blue stars mat. You can check pics of the actual mat here: link And here: link |

How do they compare to Hotz? |
matgc83 | 24 Aug 2012 5:10 a.m. PST |
@Gunslinger, I can't speak of quality, as I don't own a Hotz, but regarding costumer service, Corsec is lightyears ahead. Jonathan, from Corsec, always replies my e-mails quickly (I frequently buy omni-stands with him), while Hotz may take weeks (literaly
) to reply them

WAY better than Hotz
My Hotz was just a kinda treated cloth with some paint on it. Nice, but simple. The CorSec mats are amazing! Photos on cloth. Stunning just to see.

We have both Hotz and CorSec in the shop
. Here is the CorSec one

If money is no object then CorSec is the way to go but Hotz is certainly an acceptable alternative at almost a third of the price. |

Sorry for the Necropost, but has anyone bought their new V2 map? Quality still good? |
jimklein1966 | 16 Mar 2013 7:09 a.m. PST |
I have the 'Pillars and Jets' mat and its fantastic. I've taken it to several game events and its seen a fair bit of abuse and its 'weathered' all of perfectly. I have a Hotz mat too for naval games and it hasnt held up as well and that one never leaves the house. As far as visual appeal- Corsec hands down. They're done from actual Hubble photographs so you are getting 'the real thing' as it were. Ive seen the prototype for the V2 mats and the print quality is even better. I have one on order now- Red Nebulae I think its called. Heres a couple pics of 'Pillars and Jets' from a game At Bayou Wars last year

Dynamite looking. I wanted one for my birthday list, and that settles it. :) Want one. |
CorSecEng | 16 Mar 2013 7:53 a.m. PST |
those pics are of Ver1. VER2 is WAY better. Thicker, cheaper, and the colors have a bit more of a kick to them. Also blacks are much deeper now giving the entire mat a better contrast. Pillars and Jets probably didn't change much but I have yet to see it printed with the new method. We use a fleece material now and that gives us all the benefits of felt along with the better images and none of the fraying or mess of felt. They fold up nice and unfold without big wrinkles. At the 69.99 price point we can now complete with the felt mats on price as well. The larger size (80x60) is coming soon. Still working out the details. |

Has delivery time improved any, or are we still looking at 4-6 weeks (or even more)? |
CorSecEng | 16 Mar 2013 3:00 p.m. PST |
Well that depends on the season. Right now they are shipping within a few days. I know from experience that they get very busy near Christmas so extra delays are expected. They got so busy that everyone refused to answer my emails for 3 months. They say 3-4 weeks so I wouldn't expect more then that but only during the times that are really busy. I'm also only submitting orders a few days a week so that might add a bit of time. Once the new system is implemented, they will be instantly sent in. |

Okay, doesn't sound like it'll be a big deal then. It's for my mid-May birthday, so I had best get the wish list distributed in case someone does actually get it for me. If no one gets it for me for a mid-May birthday, any chance of my ordering it mid-May and getting a map before Origins? I had hoped to use it there in a game I'm running. :) |
CorSecEng | 16 Mar 2013 4:42 p.m. PST |
All I can say is probably. We have no control after it hits the printers system. Depends on how heavy their load is and how fast it gets shipped. So far is seems they print and ship rather quickly. |

Okay, thanks for your help. |

From matgc83, expanding early praise, on his blog:
Jonathan, from Corsec, kindly agreed to design this on for me
Just wanted to say, have dealt with Jonathan myself, recently, and he really will work with you, whatever your crazy request. Haven't gotten a table cover yet. He sure is making that difficult, even if he makes most everything else easy. ;->= Doug |

I just got a new game map in the mail, from Corsec Engineering. It's one of their new V2 maps. The main difference from previous versions are a different fabric, the fabric is made in China, and it appears to be printed in the US. They sell a nominal sized 60"x50", which is actually 58"x48" once the edges are sewn up. The price is half of what it used to cost, which is what prevented me from buying one. I can overlook the made in China thing; the map is beautiful. :) I got the Blue Stars Option, for $69.99 USD, free shipping. Delivery took about a week. See here: corseceng.com/fabric-mats Pics:
I am so going to be using this at Origins. :D I am quite pleased with mine. |

Where did you get the bases for your Star Fleet models? I am referring to the firing arcs. They look great! I just bought the Federation and Klingon boxed sets and would love to add them to my ships if I could. Thanks, Larry |
billclo | 22 May 2013 3:45 a.m. PST |
I had the firing arc stickers made locally by a graphics artist I hired, and then a print shop made a large run of them for me. I sold the extras, intending to defray the cost of my intial outlay, only to discover they were quite popular. I still sell them, though I am down to some slight seconds at this point. I don't have enough orders to justify another order right now. If you are interested in getting some, head on over to the Mongoose ACTA forum and private mail me there. :) I use the same username there "billclo". I recently played my first game on the new Corsec map, X-Wing. Here's a couple pics of how it looked.
