The outpost is finally done or least as done as its going to get for now. It still needs about a half dozen "touch ups" in places. The camera flash, again, is a bit harsh. The model has a much more " lived in " look to it in person. The idea I was going for is something that would look like it can, and has been, disassembled and set back up from colony to colony as needed. The figures are for scale purposes. If anyone knows who makes good civilian scientist or engineer figures, please let me know. the two civis in the pics w grass at their feet don't quite look right indoors
heh. The furniture was not glued down in order to make it easier to move figures about inside if necessary and to be able to reconfigure the out post for other purposes depending on the scenario. Command post, warehouse, whatever. All the furniture is from Khurasan. Any and all comments welcome!
Combat Wombat shuttle on the roof. (Love that lil model)

SpleenRippa | 21 Aug 2012 4:45 p.m. PST |
I would guess that those are pieces from the Imex/Pegasus building kits |
jimklein1966 | 21 Aug 2012 4:47 p.m. PST |
Thanks! The basic frame was made from Platformer/Hexagon sets. The rest is sheet styrene, junk from the 'bitz box' etc. |

Nice work Jim. Is the tiled floor our piece? Looks like it, as do some of the consoles etc. |
Etranger | 21 Aug 2012 9:56 p.m. PST |
That is very nice. I was going to ask who made the shuttle, until I realised that I've got the same one, albeit with the engines in a different position. (Combat Wombats Bullfrog Lander) |
Cacique Caribe | 21 Aug 2012 10:56 p.m. PST |
What are those pieces (Platformer/Hexagon sets) made of? Do they take Super Glue well? Thanks, Dan |
jimklein1966 | 22 Aug 2012 6:18 a.m. PST |
Wow, I wasn't expecting such a huge response, thank you all esp Ravenstar, Rebel Minis and Khurasan. I'll try and answer all the questions- The scale is 15mm. The tile floor is from a Platformer set. I have several of the Khurasan tiles saved for another project (I need to order more of them). The consoles on the floor are Khurasans and the ones on the walls are from Antenocitis Workshop. I never played Doom but after Ditto's comment I wish I had! The Platformer/Hexagon sets are made from regular model plastic and take super glue and accelerator just fine. Again thanks everyone! |

To bad the flash brings out the weathering so much. You stuff looks so much cooler on the table. The colors blend more. |

Too bad those Hasslefree figs are 28mm, because they are so nice. And i'm not sure what is wrong with your camera, the pics look fine. -Eli |

Awesome! I have tons of those kit parts. You gave me a lot of inspiration |

Too bad those Hasslefree figs are 28mm Shoot, I went back and noticed the Khurasan reference. I thought it was all 28mm! Sorry all. |
infojunky | 22 Aug 2012 12:13 p.m. PST |
The Platformer stuff is made out of styrene, as such responds well to vanilla model cement, not so well to CA glues. If you rough up the surface of both parts you will get better performance. |

Important question
where's the toilet? :p |
jpattern2 | 23 Aug 2012 9:55 a.m. PST |
Jim, I forgot you asked for civilian scientist and engineer ideas. Here are some good ones. Warzone Cybertronic Doctor Diana, still available from Prince August:
Hasslefree's Vile Vek:
Hasslefree's Lab Technician:
Moonfleet's Scientists:
Pulp Figures' Scientific Masterminds:
Fiendish Fabrications' Professor von Faustleibe (the cybernetic arms and the big green tube are separate, if you don't like them):
West Wind's Secrets of the Third Reich CLone Tanks set includes a great doctor, and the clone tanks themselves are pretty nifty:
Reaper's Professor L.T. Froschmeister:
and Dr. Welby:
and Nurse Anne Foster:
and Professor Laura Pringle:
and Dr. Ervin Friedman:

He needs the lab coat fellas from Khurasan:
Or paint up the Rebel Minis clerics in white and change the guns to remote pain control devices, tricorders and/or iPads.

Another couple of shots (from Alien Resurrection) showing the side button coats, similar to Moonfleet's 28mm Scientist figures and Rebels 15mm Clerics:

Oops! Yeah, all of my suggestions were for 28mms. My bad. Good call on the Aliens scientists, Dan. I'm also partial to the mint-green PVC lab coats worn by the Fifth Element scientists:

jimklein1966 | 23 Aug 2012 9:01 p.m. PST |
All fantastic suggestions. Makes me wish I still did 28mm. The cloning tanks tho would work for any scale and will definately be on the next 'goodies order'. Thanks Jpattern2. Ive been looking at the Kurasan scientists too, just not sure what to do with the dead one! lol As for "Where's the toilet?"
.go out the front door, turn left, third bush on the right. lol. Seriously tho I did think about it. However, noone makes bathroom fixtures (ie toilets). If anyone ever does (hey Khurasan!)I'll add an addition onto the outpost. :) |

oh wow, these are great. Any 15mm sinks? Now that Ive seen these I think Im gonna build a portable bathroom/shower trailer like the ones they set up in Iraq. |
