This dio is related to the Crimean War (1853-1856), also called the first "modern war", due to the extensive use of the electric telegraph and the use tactical use, for the first time, of railways – just the thing that was sure to awaken CB´s interest.

Nice Great Western model. Built not far from where I sit by my great hero Brunel. The Crimean War also provides me with a good song to sing in front of my French friends. The "Battle Of Alma" – referring as it does to "France and England hand in hand, what foe on earth could them withstand?". Most of the rest of my repertoire of battle songs are distinctly anti-French. |
