I bought into the Kickstarter for Blackwater Gulch because the minis looked good and I really wanted the dice. I was able to touch base with Tim and set up an exchange for the minis at Gencon.

The minis are solid, I give them an 8/10 very little flash, there is some style, and assembly makes sense meaning at most a mini is 3 parts. Nothing super Dynamic, but not boring.

The Rules are fast, easy to learn. I was able to be taught the rules, play 2 turns and have a decent understanding in 20 min. I suspect at most a game will be 45-60 min.

Cost. If the starter boxes stay at the 30 dollar level as per the kickstarter, you are looking at 6 per fig. Not super expensive, I would be willing to pay that for more models

My only gripe is the bases, I loath the 30mm round lipped, I would have preferred the 25mm round, but the base size did not seem to impact the game, so I can just base them how I want.

In all I am happy with my purchase.

Interesting. I'm curious that $6.00 USD per fig is not considered 'super expensive' though. Every other company that sell 25-32mm figs for the Old West run half that or less (sometimes much less) excluding the resin Black Scorpion figs.

Thanks,

John

I think $6 USD per figure is very expensive.

From the Kickstarter, it looks like a box of 5 characters for $35.00 USD. But this includes the bases (apparently), character cards, a quick-play version of the rules, and a plastic box/carrying case. Not too bad, assuming you can play a good game with a single gang vs another player.

If six bucks a figure is no longer considered expensive I think I need to review all of My pricing policies at OG ????

Howdy folks. Sorry for jumping in here late, a friend forwarded me the link so I thought I'd chime in :)

Blackwater Gulch is my game :) Nice meeting you at GenCon, glad you liked the figs :) I like the 30mm rounded bases a lot, for the look, but I know not everyone does. That's why I put in the rulebook you can use 25mm or 30mm. And I know the game is new and a lot of folks already have lots of their own favorite old figures and will want to use them, so that's why the rules also have a create your own gang section and plus I know not everyone will want to use the characters we made up for the game and would prefer to do their own thing with our figures. So, lots of options there.

Just wanted to address the price thing. It's a skirmish game, along the lines of Infinity or Malifaux. My goal with the minis was to put out highly detailed and dynamic figures, in the scale I prefer which is 28-30mm heroic scale. What can I say, 20 years of being a GW fanboy has warped my mind :)

Anyway, the prices reflect the normal retail price based on the cost to make the metal figures plus the packaging. It's really as simple as that. The starter sets were $30 USD in the Kickstarter, $35 USD is the highest I want to go for a retail price. This is about the same price as Malifaux starters and Infinity's I believe are around $45 USD for 6 figures. But, I won't know my final price until the boxes are finalized next week. I'm working hard crunching numbers to try and get the retail price at or around $30. USD Chances are some starters will be a couple bucks more than others, depending on the cost of the metal figs. Starters come with 5 figures, 5 character cards and simplified quickstart rules. We'll also be doing 3-man "booster packs" to add new characters to each gang's starter sets, and some hired guns in packs of 3 that don't belong to any gang and can join anyone. If all goes well, the boosters will vary from $15 USD-18 again depending on the metal price. I'm trying to keep it as affordable as I can, but at the same time I gotta make a buck or 2 after the distributors take like 60% off.

I'm going to be finalizing everything in the next couple of weeks. Getting pretty excited now, it's taken a good year or so of planning to get to this point :) thanks again for trying the game :)

Tim
