I ran a Mummy's tomb game using Astounding Tales this afternoon. I had three teams with eight figures to a team. There were cultists, treasure hunters, and archeologists. The tomb itself was built by me. Here are some pics of the game:

One of the teams was controlled by me. It was a fun game and the rules work very well. The miniatures and the superb tomb itself were a special pleasure. Chuck did a good job game mastering the scenario and we had companionable participants.

Now if I can just get my team out of the Treasure Room. I closed the only entrance into it to prevent mischief by the other two teams.

Back to Cairo men, I hope!,

Do you have DIY step by step?

chuck05 Fezian19 Aug 2012 6:44 p.m. PST

I dont have a step by step unfortunately. I did the first batch of seven tiles kinda on a whim and didnt think to take pictures.

Im thinking of making some more tiles. I'll take pictures of the step by steo and put up another post.

Wow, excellent work, many thanks for sharing. Can you outline the scenario/ any special goals/tasks that the teams had? Would be interested to know.

I had three teams of eight guys. There were three heroes with skills and multiple wounds and five grunts who were little more than human shields.

I didnt have any special scenario objectives. I was thinking of running it as a series of three games. We didnt have time to run the other scenarios this time. The first game would take place outside the tomb and be the dash to the entrance to the tomb. Whoever got to the tomb first would have the advantage of setting up first in the next game.

The second game would be the tomb game as I ran it. The objective would be to make it to the last chamber of the tomb and find the secret passge to the mummies lair. I put out twenty encounter markers to slow them down. There were three " no encounter". The rest had things like a cave in, mummies/skeletons, tomb robbers/medjai, cobras, scarab swarms.

The last scenario would take place in the mummies lair. I have some textured wallpaper that looks like stones that I was going to lay out and decorate with some Egyptian themed aquarium scenery and piles of loot. I fgure the bad guys might have some sort of amulet that might give them power over the mummy. Perhaps they could have a battle of wills to see if the mummy stays controled. The treasure hunters would have to search as many loot piles and escape the tomb. The good guys have a scroll/artifact that can slay the mummy forever and they win the game if they kill the mummy and foil the cultist plot

Thats what I have in mind so far. Id love to hear some suggestions and ideas from others. Im thinking of running this at Little Wars or Rock Con one of these years.

When I run it again as a one off game, I'll have the teams have to make it to the treasure room and require them to search the various treasure piles for loot then escape the tomb. FOr every loot counter they escape with, they will roll s d6 for the value of the counter. Whoever has the most loot wins. I figure there could be a skill for some of the academic heroes that give a bonus to thier loot roll to encourage players to take some non combat types.
