Hi all. I played another Hail Caesar game to get a better grasp on the rules and try some terrain features that we hadn't tackled yet. We took some pics and thought you might be interested.
More pics and an AAR on my blog. Also, I am not really grasping on how to use skirmishers in HC. This is my first ancients rules set, but as I understand it the skirmishers would start in front of the main battle lines and flee once the main lines clashed. How does this work in HC? Even if they are in open order, trying to recoil them behind the main battle line has a good chance of disordering the main line, right? |

That's a splendid battle report, looks like you both had a fun game! as I understand it the skirmishers would start in front of the main battle lines and flee once the main lines clashed. How does this work in HC? Even if they are in open order, trying to recoil them behind the main battle line has a good chance of disordering the main line, right? "Units can move through friends without penalty if either unit is skirmishers or other infantry in open order" (p35) |

Well done looks like a great battle. Are those Romans Wargames Factory? |

Argh, how did I miss that line! Thanks so much Margard :) Prince Rupert, those are indeed Wargames Factory Romans. |

Skirmishers are useful for protecting those flanks. |

I heard the same things about WF Romans Prince Rupert, and honestly there is some soft detail and wonky poses, but painted up and based en masse I'm really happy with the results. I posted a few thoughts on the WF Romans as I was working on them too. Maybe they'll give you a better idea of their strengths and weaknesses: Single figures, painted and unpainted My Tips for WF Romans |

Very nice job. The WGF miniatures look pretty good when they are all done and based up. Good job. |

JSears@ thanks. I found my copy of WAB Spartacus the other day and was trying to work out a cheap way to build a couple of armies. WF romans are the right period and price and maybe I can do something with them. It seems if you can get the shields right then based on masse you can can distract the eye from the less than stellar sculpting of the Romans themselves. |

I have the rules, but no figures yet. Thanks for the report as it gives me an idea on how many troops I'll need to run a good sized game. |
