I have been looking for a good 'quick reference' painting guide for the Franco-Prussian War and found these on-line. They were apparently assembled by Foundry to accompany their excellent 25mm range. While the multiple Osprey Men-at-Arms volumes offer a bit more variety, if you are looking to paint basic line infantry, artillery and cavalry battalions, it's all there.

Thank you – very useful to have them all on two pages

Still got mine! That's when colours were colours…

Love the French officers and dragoon smoking the cigar or cigarette and the German his pipe. Tobacco is dreadful stuff but still still a big part of history.

Still have mine as well. I remember how surprized I was to see it in my box back in '88 and thinking "I know I didn't order this!?" Aahhh, the good old days when you would find freebies in your orders…

Thanks for posting the Baccus guide.

While no expert, I do want to correct this otherwise informative resource by pointing out the fact that 2 of the 3 battalions in Prussian line infantry regiments had white leather belts, while only the 3rd (fusilier battalion) had black (as did the Jager battalions). It also does not provide the distinctions in the guards regiments.
