Not your bog standard Comitatus game but I had fun.

For those not familiar with them, these 40mm hard plastic troops were produced in Germany in the 60's and sold pre-painted. Kit versions were later sold in the US at least. My slowly growing collection has a few originals, some still in original paint but more broken ones repaired or converted and even more of the kits.

Since many were based on the Prince Valiant comic strip, I try not to let the games or figures get too serious.

The game with pictures is on my blog. link

Some splendid figures in there, MacDuff – love the animation on those horses.

MacDuff, I have the battering ram from Elastolin still in box NOT broken! Also it is for sale! Nice report and figures! Mike Adams

Wonderfully atmospheric report!
Those Elastolins are fantastic. When I was a boy my Grandmother occasionally took me to the Harrod's toy floor where they had the whole range on display, and she would but me a figure. I still have them (a mix of Romans and Saxons in 54mm) but all have some broken bits. I even have a Ballista.
Glad Comitatus worked out well at that scale.

Thanks Mike, I'd love to make you an offer but to be honest I can't offer anything like even a heavily discounted fair price. Unbroken and in a box is worth a fair amount on the toy soldier side of ebay.

Simon, I remember drooling over the displays at Eaton's as a kid. Never got as far as having one bought for me :( Had to wait till I was 50 and buy 'em myself! :)

Looking at the scale, since each stand was 50mm x 50mm it was really just fewer figures per stand so it was just about looks: ranges look shorter and fewer guys make it look more like a skirmish.
