Looking for figures to represent Ethopians fighting the Italians in '36.

Im thinking colonial figures with lightly armed (with firearms) and lots of spears and swords and shields.

Black hat do earlier Abyssinians which should pass off as tribal types. Ethiopian regulars can be done by using WW1 British in soft caps and colonial British.

Don't think anyone does actual 1930's Ethiopians though.

I could have sworm somebody did these.

Eureka does make Abyssinians with muskets, and another pack with swords, all of which would make good tribal levies.

Edit to add that Tin Soldier UK is the one I was thinking of. They make a line as well.

Irregular Miniatures produces them as well. They offer the following:

FZ70 Abyssinian/Ethiopian Infantry with spear/sword
FZ71 Abyssinian/Ethiopian Infantry with rifle
FZ72 Abyssinian/Ethiopian Cavalry

Each code has several poses.

Reviresco has a large 1/72 scale multi-part figure with separate weapons for the tribal levies available by special order. John also makes WW1Brits in peaked caps as well,

Hope this helps!

Tin Soldier does a complete line, as well as Italians. All in 15mm

The Tin Soldier line is all tribes from Wargames Illustrated 2 part special. Mostly Danakil, Masaii,Somali, Galla etc. Not very Amharan or Tygrinian.
The Black Hat were previously Gladiator. Would do for tribal
Levies. They are a bit bigger than the Minifigs 15mm WWI BEF.
The Eureka fellows do very well 1860-1895. '35 at
a strech but you would have to do something with the firearms.
There is a 15mm range somewhere in development but cant remember who.

Would the Italians in from Tin Soldiers 'work' for WW2?

Would the Italians in from Tin Soldiers 'work' for WW2?

No, Gravett Islander, as their helmets resemble the British Army's sun helmets worn during the Zulu War. Flames of War produces WWII Italians:

One great source for depictions of all colonial troops in Africa during WWII is Hugo Pratt's the Desert Scorpions, about a bunch of LRDG and the liberation of Ethiopia. The special editions have tons of watercolours of every single regiment. You can find it online if you search long enough, but it'll most probably be in French (although the watercolours usually are in the original Italian).

Having 15mm versions of the colonial uniforms seen there (with fezes, gaudy sleeve insignias et al.) would be something.

Thanks Saginaw, don't forget the OG/Skytrex WW2 Italians!

You would have to pick the Italians with sunhats. Not seen any photos of Italians in Helmets.

Bloodaxe does a range of 1st Italo-Ethiopian War (1895-96 that work very well for the 1936 2nd Italo-Ethiopian War and are very reasonable price wise and paint up well.
