Very nice work, but calling a Gundam a robot is an insult!

Does a robot need a scope?

Delthos13 Aug 2012 5:27 a.m. PST

Seeing how Gundam aren't Robots, but mobile battle suits, they might.

Dynaman878913 Aug 2012 5:52 a.m. PST

They still should not, but in Anime the rule of cool overrides all else.

That is incredible work! Truly a slap in the face to any moron who thinks it is pointless to paint camo on a 50ft tall mech.

The scope is a bit odd….here is my argument for justification:
The scope is like a targeting array/sensor. It is made to look like an infantry rifle, but the data is just linked to the pilot's comm system so the mech doesn't have to "look" through the scope to see what the gun is aimed at.

Who said that the Gundam had to look through the scope? It could be just a slaved optic to the gun for targeting purposes.

Farstar13 Aug 2012 10:39 a.m. PST

That may be mounted like a scope, but it's the size of a rocket booster.

Very nice work, but calling a Gundam a robot is an insult!

And calling a Zeon designed(albeit Federation produced) mobile suit "a Gundam" is an insult to the rich variety of designs and types.

That's a RMS-117 Galbaldy β. Not a Gundam. Gundam is the proper name of a type of mobile suit. Just as Zaku, GM, etc are as well. Getting super technical just because I can…. Gundams are also all RX-series serial numbers. grin Gundam has been a long time obsession of mine.

The scope is definitely rule of cool, but in-universe, due to the reactors the mobile suits use, there's enough jamming from their use in combat that most sensors at long range are useless. Literally, the first war devolved from drones and cruise missiles from half way across the planet to World War II era visual combat ranges. That's also why all missiles in the various series are also either wired guided, Preset coordinates/fire and forget or heat seeking.
