Hi there, I read in Piers Mackesy's 'British Victory in Egypt – the end of Napoleon's conquest'; (In the evening before the Battle of Alexandria, 21 March 1801) "Moore (the Brit general) stationed himself with the left picket of the reserve where he stayed till 4a.m. The enemy (French) had been quiet during the night, apart from firing some rockets, which was not unusual." p117. Anybody know more about 'usual' French rockets in Egypt? I guess they could be communication rockets, but in context above they may have been used to focus the enemy's attention to the front as the French battle – plan unfolds at first light with a flanking action by the dromedaries.
