OLD REYNELLA FESTIVAL OF HISTORY March 9th and 10th 2013

Next year the Adelaide Drumroll wargames convention (previously known as Bugle Call) will be part of a huge event at Old Reynella, just 25 minutes south from the centre of the city. The theme will be the battle of LEIPZIG.

THE BATTLE OF THE NATIONS
One hall has been set aside exclusively for a 15mm game being run by Steve O'Connor. steveoc64@gmail.com ,the Vice President of HISTORYCON ADELAIDE. It will be in several sections and cover the various parts that made up the battle of Leipzig as a whole. Several thousand models will be on the tabletop. A very high standard of scenery presentation has been set for this game, which will be of Museum quality. Anyone interested in participating can contact Steve on the email address given as there will be room for lots of players.
The main Community hall and detached areas will host a large number of wargames of all kinds from Historical to Sci-Fi.

WARGAMES CLUBS and AUSTRALIAN CHAMPION WARGAMES CLUB SCENERY
Wargames clubs from anywhere are invited to attend and put on a demonstration game. A trophy for best club wargame will be presented to the club that put on the game for Drumroll with best scenery and public appeal. This is to be an annual event for AUSTRALIAN CHAMPION WARGAMES CLUB SCENERY. If your club wishes to take part please let us know. The event is hosted by the newly formed HISTORYCON ADELAIDE (inc) formed specifically to run and help clubs run conventions. Contact the president Mal Wright at mgwright@bigpond.net.au telephone 08 83815785 or the secretary Mike Dryden on
mikedryden@bigpond.com Should this involve transport and other costs, clubs are invited to submit a game proposal and it will be considered for grants funding assistance.
WARHAMMER, HORDES and WARMACHINE players wishing to be involved should contact normanblunden@bigpond.com

RE-ENACTORS
There will be re-enactor parades, drill displays and mock battles. A large street parade will take place with old military vehicles and AFV's as well as re-enactors. High ranking dignitaries present will be asked to take the salute and re-enactors are providing a guard of honour for national ambassadors. Being part of the overall OLD REYNELLA FESTIVAL OF HISTORY it has State and Local Government support and grants funding. Large numbers of re-enactors have already expressed interest in attending and are being coordinated by Chris from Re-enactment SA. cplusk@bigpond.com A camping area is available for re-enactors or accommodation deals at local motels. Some financial compensation from Local Government Grants and Corporate sponsorship for the transport of equipment will be provided on application through HISTORYCON ADELAIDE.

PROMOTION AND PUBLICITY
This is a public event with considerable publicity and expected to draw several thousand people. The advertising plan is for between five and ten thousand. It will be covered by government tourism advice, state media, and press releases from the City of Onkaparinga Council, Government of South Australia and corporate sponsors.

WARGAMES TRADERS
Traders are already signing up as this will be a huge gathering by national standards. Eureka Miniatures and Micks Metal Models are supporters of the event. Military Hobbies, Olympian Games and four others have expressed interest in attending. Others wishing to book a stall should contact the secretary Mike Dryden on mikedryden@bigpond.com

OTHER ATTRACTIONS
Community groups such as Lions and schools are also involved putting on stalls and displays. The Noarlunga Model Railway Association will hold an open weekend for visitors to view their hall near the bus exchange and right across the road from the wargames area. Old restored buildings such as the Cobb and Co coach station will be open for inspection. Many of the stone buildings of Old Reynella were constructed with the aid of a stonemason who had fought at Waterloo and in the Peninsular during the Napoleonic Wars. Another early pioneer had been in the Prussian army under Blucher. The history of settlement and the old town will be celebrated as part of the festival. Wineries will be involved, both displaying their products and providing tastings

.DRESS TO HISTORY DINNER.
On Saturday night the 9th there will be a large ‘dress' to the period dinner at an old winery at Old Reynella. Official guests are the Ambassadors. Those attending can be assisted to hire uniforms and clothing of the 1813 period of they don't have their own. Members of the current or retired Australian Military are welcome to wear their own uniforms with pride.

WHAT CAN THE FAMILY DO?
OLD REYNELLA is the gateway to the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsular the largest wine producing region in Australia and has many tourist attractions for the entire family. So those who wish to attend the wargaming and military history displays can turn the family loose to enjoy the little towns, high standard restaurants and bakeries, or to just walk on the sandy beaches and visit scenic sites. Being so close to the city means that interstate visitors will also find it easy to visit the only Panda Bear's in Australia, at the Adelaide Zoo.

Don't forget that the Fringe Festival is on, as well as WOMAD, for those in need of a further cultural fix while in Adelaide.

This will be bigger than Ben Hur!

Because we are combining many facets of history across the community, it will indeed be a very large event.
SA Police Historical Society, Reynell Business and Historical Association, schools, even poets and local historians. The wargames convention is one of the major features, but only one of them. With the amount of backing we have I'm quite confident we will have a huge crowd. The Festival already covers an area half a mile long and if proposals put to me over recent days come to fruit, it will be even larger in area.

There are accommodation deals, but I cant provide them just yet.

In all seriousness, this is not 'Just another wargames convention'. This is a major festival of history with wargamers and reenactors playing a big part. We also have lots of traders. The wargames area available is limited, but the over all event will dwarf CANCON.

(But there are ideas afoot to make the wargames area far larger than we currently have)

BANDS, mock battles, living history presentations, artists, speakers, poets, food of earlier times. We are trying to have it all there.
