Finally finished the basing/painting session I've been on to get a load of units finished.

I've enjoyed finishing these off. I now have a load of T-64s, river crossing gear and a LOT of infantry to do!

Cheers for looking

Nice job on the BMP's.

Red Hordes……….always pleasing to the eye!
Mine are still in the undercoat/still boxed category!

Is that a kubelwagen on your BMP command stand?

These are based for CWC, right?

latto6plus208 Aug 2012 8:23 a.m. PST

Very nice. Im going to have to put turret numbers on mine one of these days…

Very nice job – the basing really sets the whole lot off nicely.

PS – Bede, that's a GAZ 69 I think.

Count Belisarius08 Aug 2012 9:13 a.m. PST

Hopefully it's a GAZ 69! :)

Turret numbers are just done with a white gel pen. And I basically just scribble a few lines. At normal distance it looks fine and give the right effect/contrast. The '111' unit is always easy! The rest is impressionistic!

Cheers for the positive comments

Nice! What size bases are you using? Just asking because I have oodles of 1/300 vehicles to rebase at some point.

Count Belisarius08 Aug 2012 12:33 p.m. PST

All vehicles are on 40x20mm. Why? I had loads of these when I first started basing my microarmour and have just stuck with it!

HQs and (from now on) artillery are on 40x40mm. The COs on 60x60mm. Infantry 'til now have been on 40x20 as well but I'm toying with 40x30.. not sure yet.

Lots of people stick with the Spearhead 30x30 standard but I find that too small for bigger tanks.

Thanks, I was going with 30mm square but square bases looked too big IMHO.

I think 30 square can reflect the deployment area and prevent 'clumping' units together. I just think it doesn't fit the models well.

I always think that if you want to line up your models side by side then fine. But my FAOs will be watching!

Hmmm, Ive gone 30 square for nato and 30x20 for russians (except for command & recce), let them clump up a bit more.

Count Belisarius08 Aug 2012 11:42 p.m. PST

The 40mm for me was partly to protect the barrels as well. I'm not keen on the 30x30s with big tanks all set at funny angles to fit on or with barrels sticking out!

I was ALMOST tempted to go 40x40 for everything as I quite like playing with the scenics on the bases. But I also wanted to see my tanks driving down the roads!

Allowing the tanks to look sensible when onn a road is also my reasoning for narrower bases as well. I may ven paint them greay to match my roads with just some flocking on the edge as seeing vehicles with green grassy plinths trundling along the tarmac looks a bit off.

I alo dislike wall-to-wall tanks so I'll be spreading them out to look a tad more realistic when moving accross country.

And a few more!

I had planned to move onto something different for a week or two just to give myself a break from the micro armour so I don't burn out. But having taken delivery of the large batch of T-64s et al I was quite taken with the camo pattern on a batch T-80Us so fancied basing them up and also doing another batch of D-30s. This time mounted correctly!

The lot:

The T-80s were bought painted from slugbalancer) but touched up and based by me.

It is a very excellent unit. I do enjoy the Russian tanks in that earth brown and green camo.

Thank you for sharing.

Count Belisarius16 Aug 2012 4:14 a.m. PST

It does make a change from the green! I've got some BMP3s and BTR80s in the same scheme and they will likely be up next but will need to order a few extra bits for the HQ stands first.

Impressive work from the painting collective Comrade Belisarius, surely you are on target to meet this months quota!
However be warned that state security are aware of your dangerous Bonapartist tendencies!

Count Belisarius26 Aug 2012 11:23 p.m. PST

Have no fear comrade! A new (though slightly dated!) batch of Soviet military hardware has just arrived and awaits transfer to the production line…
