Well – more of an elevated railway really.

This is what I'm working on for the Slammers Salute game next year.

Basic rail laid out – some straights, a slightly curved bit (with a blown up bit) from sheet plastic with edging added – plus support towers (with some kind of 'broadcast power dome thingies'…) and train cars, yet to be painted up.

Never underestimate the power of a plasma gun.

Oh wow! That's so cool! Where is that from?

Ah man, now I need to do a monorail….

Etranger05 Aug 2012 7:04 p.m. PST

Those trams are great for the role aren't they? Mr Harold, they (or something very similar) are from Siku. They're probably around 1:120 rather than 1:100 but I'm planning on using them for something similar. They'd look good on your urban terrain & add to the Syndicate vibe.

Thank you very much for the link! You're right, I need a rundown monorail for my city now…

John Treadaway06 Aug 2012 1:47 a.m. PST

I figure they are a little small but – when I've darkened the windows slightly (I'm planning both dirt and, perhaps, some grafitti) – I figure no one will notice. They were cheap enough to experiment with: I think I bought mine on Amazon UK.

Got to make a section that's hit the deck too (ie the bit of track that's been shot off the front!). Was smashing up some Ainsty resin (the source of the support towers) with an axe in a plastic bag to catch the bits (and minimise the dangerous shrapnel) in the garage last night… (and my wife thinks I'm mad evil grin)

You need a hanging monorail instead.

Kvartal single rail: link

Kvartal curve (cut at appropriate point for different amount of curve): link

Kvartal hanger (hangs from the top, make separate bases or alternate them side-to-side: link

There are options for triple rails as well: link

The curtain rail might be useful as a spine for a suspended monorail:

Agreed that would look absolutely wonderful – and very 'Thunderbirds' (the yardstick of FAB after all grin).

But I already had the plastic sheet and the Ainsty castings (post Dalek Game scenery) so it was more of a case of "what can I do with what I've got plus some tram cars!"

I've got some of those rail offcuts in the shed too. Good thought emckinney!

This looks great.

I was just driving through Chicago today thinking that some of their railways and bridges would look great as urban terrain in a small scale and wondering how I'd do it. This has inspired me to give it a try. I'm going to have to start looking for a futuristic train set that would fit with 6mm and see what happens.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

This is a great way to add height to an urban table too, without having to rely on buildings.

John Treadaway07 Aug 2012 2:06 a.m. PST

Thanks for the input people.

I've just added the two downed sections:

Of course afterwards somebody suggested "why didn't you stick a crushed car underneath it"

Darn it!

Great scenery, something i am dreaming of doing myself someday..

Eli Arndt07 Aug 2012 6:18 a.m. PST

Crushed car or no, it still looks incredible and I am inspired to try to develop some sort of train, tram, or similar beast.

Couldn't you slide a car under one of those pieces, just to make your friend happy?

That is awesome! Those downed sections are awesome!

Wow… really cool!

John Treadaway07 Aug 2012 9:36 a.m. PST

You're right, Eli – I'm gonna have to stomp on a couple of cars and get sliding!

Thanks for all the positive feeback folks grin

John T

EDIT: OK extra bit of track made and cars stomped on. I'll take some pics when the glue has dried!

AVAMANGO08 Aug 2012 8:43 p.m. PST

Very impressive now you need to make or buy a mono rail station with platform.

You're right, Avamango – a station will be needed.

Off on a bike tour of Friday: I shall look into that on my return in September.
