Another fine share Nigel, do you have any photo's of this piece with with people about for some scale. I know the measurements but, people add that extra dimension (pun?)

Dave,
I was only able to take those four pictures that I put on the blog. I should have thought about some sort of scale – there is one picture with someone in the background but it does not really help. Sorry.
Nigel
PS I'm 6' tall and when I stood next to it I was about a foot taller than the wheels (which themselves were off the ground). But she is a big b****r!

Hell…I think I took a photo of that last year while at Les Invalides. When I get time I'll trawl through them all to see if I have one with my wife in it for scale. She's short, but probably about the size of an average person in that era.
I've always had a bit of 'a thing' for the Brummer.

Are the wheel rims finished in iron? It doesn't appear that the museum has used any kind of a protective rust coating.

DAF,

Looking closely at pictures 1 & 3 on the blog posting, it appears that there is an iron rim around the wheels.

Jim is correct.
As for the rust protection, it is under a roof and the wheels are raised off the ground so I'd guess that is sufficient. I can't tell whether they had treated the metalwork but I think not.

The pictures are timely and helpful as I happen to be painting some similar Prussian cannon at this time. Thank you for posting Nigel, interesting stuff. thumbs up
