What color was US Army artillery, wagons, and mechanized equipment in the colonial, just before WWI era?

I have heard it was gloss dark gray, with black trim. Is that correct? One of the items I am looking to paint is a collection of US Army or civilian tanks made just before the US Army was sending significant numbers of troops to Europe in WWI. I am also looking to paint large, horse or tractor drawn artillery for the same general era.

My plan is to play a War of the Worlds in the USA sometime in the 15 years before actual US involvement in WWI.

I think there was more than one uniform standard during the period? Carrying it forward to 1916 is a bit too far. Anyway, have been reading the large History of the U.S. Army tome. Lots of information there. Really amazing that the U.S. managed to do so well during various inter-war years. The military was definitely not kept up to snuff in many areas. The Reconstruction in the South sure lent many Southern Democrats reason to keep reducing the number of active troops.

First use of trucks and cars (and planes) by the US Army was Pershings expedition into Mexico 1916/17.

Before that its all horse drawn (trains excepted).

Yes, but what color were those trucks and cars and artillery? That is the question.

By WWI must US vehicles were painted an ordinance olive green, but during the Spam Am period I believe they were still on the CW color system with ordinance transport being olive and non-ordinance blue.
