I am interested in information concerning the British army during this conflict. I know that Osprey has a title "Marlboro's Army" but I have heard that it is of not much use. I am especialy interested in mitre caps, particularily the Scot's Greys. |

This PDF book might be of your interest. It's the English translation of a regular book originally published in Catalan language under the name of "God save Catalonia!", in a Osprey-like format. It has several full-colour uniform plates: link |

From Pike To Shot by Charles Grant is good on the British, not so much on some of the minor states, but overall matches up well with primary sources I have been hammering away at for 12 years. If in the UK, regimental museums are a great resource for this, and the various military museums of the minor German states are a FANTASTIC resource, particularly their archives, which are the most complete records on uniforms I have found. It is a bit hit-and-miss, as WWII destroyed some of the records, but I have found great info for Hesse-Kassel, Hannover, Bavaria, and Anspach-Bayreuth. |

The name 'Scots Greys' came much later (late 1800's I think), . At the start of the WSS they were Hay's Dragoons, later formally the Royal North British Dragoons and the 2nd Dragoons by the end of the war. They would have worn tricorns (not mitre caps) and were already riding grey horses at that time. Other great sources in addition to those mentioned above are link and Hahttp://www.spanishsuccession.nl |

The RNBD were wearing mitre caps about ten years earlier. There's a picture of one in 1700 in " Scottish Military Dress" by Peter Cochrane. ( Warning: the captions on that plate are scrambled!). Not sure how long this continued whilst on a long campaign. |
