So… will there be a deadline extension? I can manage either way, but a little more time certainly would take the pressure off a bit, and it seems like some folks would really appreciate it.

Also: any guidance on what sort of photos to submit? I plan to email some photos as well as sending my sculpts, just to make sure my entries are "on board" on time.

War Monkey25 Apr 2013 4:47 p.m. PST

OK staying with the main question,
add three more legs and the right upper body and you"ll have one of the creatures from falling skies.
in the mean time I would go with plant

28mmMan25 Apr 2013 8:21 p.m. PST

Nap is down for a day or two, there is a planned extension.

Another month I believe.

:)

War Monkey25 Apr 2013 9:32 p.m. PST

Plant or bug where ever it goes it leaves a trail to follow

That is so cool. Very Trigan Empire.
I have seen work just as good by some gamers here on TMP.

Eli Arndt26 Apr 2013 7:58 a.m. PST

I couldn't help but think there must be some sort of typo or mistranslation or something in the article because it kept referring to "moss" when those buildings really appear to be covered in "mold"

28mmMan26 Apr 2013 8:02 a.m. PST

It does look like mold to me.

napthyme27 Apr 2013 11:45 a.m. PST

Yeap, not only down but dealing with the demands of the business, so TMP did not get checked for a few days again.

Yes there are enough that need some more time, lets add a month to the deadline so everyone has the time to finish things properly.

As far as the photo's go whatever works best for you, either singles or group shots. I can always paste them together if I need to.

28mmMan29 May 2013 2:47 p.m. PST

Alrighty…getting the final details on.

I had a rough couple months…first I was sick upon sick and then my wife had major surgery, so no time or resolve for sculpting.

But I have found a bit of energy and am cleaning them up.

Pics being prepped and then boxed up.

I was not into the event for any reward, just looking to have a go at the cool tripod base :D

Hope everyone else got their pieces together.

GriffinTamer29 May 2013 2:51 p.m. PST

Last I heard from Napthyme there were at least half a dozen entries in. Hoping for a few more down the home stretch!

Eli Arndt29 May 2013 8:05 p.m. PST

I wasn't able to get mine done to a standard I was happy with.

I just couldn't make my concept work with the bit as it was.

Scrambling to finish. Think I overreached myself, and too many things to do the next two days to make me optimistic.

GriffinTamer30 May 2013 4:24 a.m. PST

Maybe another (shorter) extension would be in order?

Seems like the main goal is to create a cool line of sculpts, not to meet any particular deadline…

28mmMan30 May 2013 6:45 a.m. PST

I could use an extra day or two, stuck on a ship working on a radar…doing an online update of software right now :D

Eli Arndt30 May 2013 8:34 a.m. PST

I'll still work on mine, but it'll be outside the realm of the contest.

napthyme30 May 2013 1:08 p.m. PST

Hey, sorry everyone, was dealing with the outside work for spring and not checking this like I should be.

When you have health problems as I do you learn that dates should never be set in stone. We can tack on more time if you need it, the plan was to have entries and what fun is a contest without entries?

Dan has fell off the radar again, so no idea if he is entering or not.

Cacique Caribe30 May 2013 4:27 p.m. PST

Sorry guys. Alive and relatively well. Life and elderly parents' health issues getting in the way of all things miniature – again.

I'm going to have to live vicariously through you guys and your sculpts. Can't wait to see the final reveal.

Dan

TheCount31 May 2013 5:23 a.m. PST

'Thought I might be alone in not quite being on time, at least not to acceptable (if only personal) standards. So I'd throw in a vote for a little more time! Would a week do?

Cheers, Rob.

napthyme31 May 2013 7:39 p.m. PST

Yeah we can add more time. the idea was to have entries and what is a contest without entries…

TheCount01 Jun 2013 12:03 a.m. PST

Many thanks!

28mmMan05 Jun 2013 8:57 a.m. PST

I used the extra time to remove the variety of weapons and replace with a series of the same five…five troopers.

Happy now!

Will ship toot sweet!

napthyme05 Jun 2013 2:11 p.m. PST

excellent!!!… I hope you can take pics before you send them, if not I will do what I can here.

TheCount07 Jun 2013 6:21 a.m. PST

'Should have some updated pics done later today! Apologies if I'm holding up proceedings.

Regards, Rob.

TheCount11 Jun 2013 8:59 a.m. PST

'Have just posted my greens and legs, looking forward to seeing how all this turns out.

Cheers, Rob.

Cacique Caribe11 Jun 2013 2:27 p.m. PST

Awesome! Can't wait to hear how many entries there were and how they turned out.

Dan

napthyme11 Jun 2013 5:19 p.m. PST

So far we had 5 sculptors enter, hoping Rich can mange something to make it 6. I'm trying to find a slot here in my "to do" list to make the webpage for the contest to show off the photo's

My Ipad2 kinda sucks at taking pics this small, so will try to see if I can use the scanner and do any better without wrecking the legs.

Personal logo Dances With Words Supporting Member of TMP Fezian12 Jun 2013 6:20 a.m. PST

How about something like this?
link

Gokiburi12 Jun 2013 12:53 p.m. PST

I empathize with you on your ipad camera troubles, I practically had to "trick" my iphone 3gs into taking the images I sent you.

I'm excited to see everyone's designs.

DWW, I don't know about anyone else's, but my entries are definitely in the same broad category as that one. It's one of your old doppleganger minis, right? I may need to add it when I get around to ordering Dr. Sherlocktopus.

TheCount24 Jun 2013 2:36 a.m. PST

'Anyone have any news on the project?

Cheers, 'Count.

28mmMan24 Jun 2013 7:25 a.m. PST

The contest ends on 01 July and then the pics should start popping up :)

napthyme24 Jun 2013 11:21 a.m. PST

Waiting on Ray to send me pics, I have a few here I will probably have to mail to wyatt to photograph as I don't think I am going to manage, but will try again tonight. There test casts for pics anyway, so no problem on turn around time for them.

Rich is the last person who might be going to enter, hoping to hear he's polished up something so that we can have one more entry.

I have cleared about 3 major things off my to do list the last 3 weeks so hopefully I can now have time to build the contest page.

TheCount24 Jun 2013 11:29 a.m. PST

thumbs up

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP24 Jun 2013 12:40 p.m. PST

Totally outside the process, I find this good news, indeed!

Doug

napthyme04 Jul 2013 6:26 p.m. PST

ok, contest is officially closed. Will give Wyatt until this weekend to decide on who wins what, but I have to say the quality of what was entered is quite amazing considering that most of you are not doing this professionally.

Here is the link to the photo's page.

I have given the heads up to the mold maker that these will be coming, but this is the busy time of the year, so it could be fall before I can get the reward casts done for everyone.

once the winner is decided I'll find out from everyone how they want to be credited as the sculptor.

Big round of applause to everyone who entered, maybe we can talk Dan into doing this again and we can make this a yearly event.

War Monkey04 Jul 2013 7:42 p.m. PST

Wow they all look pretty good! Tough times ahead to decide.

Cacique Caribe04 Jul 2013 11:11 p.m. PST

"maybe we can talk Dan into doing this again and we can make this a yearly event."

Count me in!

I'll start thinking of what could be used as another good starting point for the other sculptors.

Dan

28mmMan05 Jul 2013 9:58 a.m. PST

That was a bit of fun…it is interesting to see the different approaches.

Well done all :)

TheCount05 Jul 2013 11:56 a.m. PST

Agreed, so good to see such a variety of results. As for a yearly event, cool idea! Go for it.

Regards, 'Count.

Cacique Caribe05 Jul 2013 1:45 p.m. PST

28mmMan: "it is interesting to see the different approaches."

That was my hope all along. I wanted to see all the different directions people would go, after getting a common starting point.

I love it. Great job everyone!

Dan

Zephyr105 Jul 2013 2:47 p.m. PST

After looking at the detail on the other entries, I realized I'm going to have to step up my game the next time…. ;-)

28mmMan05 Jul 2013 3:57 p.m. PST

Makes a list…

1. get a new eye glass prescription
2. get new glasses
3. get a huge magnifying lens
4. get a much better light source
5. find some talent before the next challenge

:)

Everyone did a great job…such different directions, still can't get over it…I figured a general similarity…but no.

lol

napthyme05 Jul 2013 8:16 p.m. PST

Once Wyatt gives his verdict on the winners, I'll go back in and reveal who did what. So please let me know at some point how you want to be credited for your entries.

And I don't think we have even scraped the surface of variation on these yet.

GriffinTamer07 Jul 2013 5:20 a.m. PST

Really fun to see all the different variations! I'd certainly be interested in another contest next year.

Now of course I'll need to find / create an appropriate game system to use these guys in…

What systems are y'all planning to use them with?

napthyme07 Jul 2013 11:26 a.m. PST

These are my first for sci-fi, so no idea really.

Gokiburi07 Jul 2013 7:31 p.m. PST

I'll certainly be on board for next year's contest if you end up running one.

And as far as crediting goes, I'd be fine with my real name plus my TMP handle: Brian "Gokiburi" Harriman.

TheCount08 Jul 2013 3:12 p.m. PST

'Guess I'll follow the same form, Rob "TheCount" Cullen will do for me.

Cheers, Rob.

Cacique Caribe08 Jul 2013 5:11 p.m. PST

I felt funny submitting an entry, being that the legs portion was from one of my greens. Plus, when my "über ethical" wife found out about the contest she gave me an immediate thumbs down on participating.

I'm definitely interested in donating another green* for the next one, but am also itching to see if there are any other donors, so I can participate too with that one.

Dan
* Napthyme, when you get some quiet time, please give me some ideas on what you would like me to donate next.

napthyme08 Jul 2013 5:51 p.m. PST

Dan your wife must be a bit of an odd duck, first she didn't believe there even was a contest, now she didn't think it was ethical for you to enter?

I could see if you were the one running the contest, but since I took that over and your not the judge where would the unethical part come into it?

As far as I could see you had just as much right to enter this as anyone else did, maybe more so. You don't keep Tiger woods out of his own memorial invitation golf tournament just because his name is on the tournament.

Will give this a bit of thought and get back to you.

TheCount09 Jul 2013 12:00 a.m. PST

I've certainly no issue with Dan being a participant.

Regards, Rob.

Cacique Caribe09 Jul 2013 4:29 a.m. PST

Napthyme: "Dan your wife must be a bit of an odd duck, first she didn't believe there even was a contest, now she didn't think it was ethical for you to enter?"

She's odd alright. It's a wonder I've been able to put up with her for almost 3 decades! :)

No worries, I'll join in on the next one then.

Dan
