Here's some photos of Frank Chadwick's epic Mars game from Friday afternoon.

Please excuse the crappy camera phone work, but a few good pics in the lot. :)

Unfortunately I can't give a true AAR – it was a mammoth 24 player affair!

The forces of Justice were fighting against the forces of Freedom! No one was really the bad guy, and Martian natives were allied with different Victorian factions. Each side was attempting to gather as many treasures as possible from this virgin area of mars, and winners were determined by which player on each faction gained the most victory points.

My Martian natives came in 2nd on the Freedom side, though we paid a heavy cost in casualties when facing the rapid fire rifles and massive tank of the British Empire! The young gentleman playing the British conducted a masterful defense, despite being harassed by rifle fire on his right flank by the French. While not getting any treasures, he came in first on his side (though IIRC 3rd overall) because of his high kill ratio against the Martian natives.

My team actually seemed to win the day, as a gentleman on the far side of the table scored 25 points, my group scored 24 (largely because of my native Shaman gave me so many bonus points in interpreting Martian relics.) Plus the fact that my direct teammate (we were paired up in groups of 2) lost his Martian potentate and the relics he had taken on a dramatic cavalry charge against the forward position of the British passed to my General as the only surviving Martian leader in the area. My teammate conducted an impressive shelling of the British forces but even his massive siege gun could not put the British tank out of commission.

As far as the rest of the table – have no idea. :) Anyone want to post their exploits and what they saw of the day I'd be happy to learn of it! LOL.

Great game, great gamers, lots of fun. Can't wait until the next con!

Elsewhere on Mars (a different game I didn't play in). I think this was the 'Conqueror Worm of Mars' though I may be mistaken. Also extremely impressive:

Wow – red, orange, pink, purple, the psychedelic terrain alone is enough to want me to do Mars gaming! And is that a canal I see?
