I don't know you but I am somewhat irked when a "Sci Fi" tank or armoured vehicle ends up looking too much like some well known modern/contemporary piece of military hardware. Hence I am always researching ways of mix/match, bash, convert or otherwise "disguise" familiar vehicles into less recognizable/identifyialbe SF forms. Browsing the web I found this pic of the GENERAL MOTORS' entry in the competition for what would have resulted in the M1 Abrams.
I find it a nice design, very modern and I think it would take little to "futurize" it a bit into a vehicle for the ever-hungry crowd of SF military enthusiasts. Could anyone at GZG, Armies Army, Ravenstar, Rebel Minis, Khurasan, Antenociti, Combat Wombat be interested? |

You say you find it similar? Dunno, Rebel's model looks more like a Self-propelled Howitzer platform to me.

It looks okay, if a bit plain. I do like the slope of the front of the turret though. For me, the MBT-70 has the look of a nice, Sci-Fi design, and since it was never put into production, would be a good option. I also like the Sci-Fi variant people have made of the M60A2 "Starship" (apparently, it got that name, since it looked so futuristic at the time), by removing the treads to make it a grav vehicle, and by shortening the main gun considerably. |

I took a Super Sherman and a T-72 from QRF and swapped the turrets and tracks. I'm in the process of re-barreling them. I used a brass rod and a short section of tube to look like a recoil mechanism about half way down the barrel. The other tank is getting something different that turret looks to WWIIish so I'm adding more bits. Sensors and some laser style barrels. I've kinda always wanted to do a thought exercise and design a scifi tank from the ground up. Invent counter measures for plasma and laser based weapons. Design the power plant and weapons systems. That way every bulge and sensor has a reason for being there. I know I'm weird but I have to create things like an engineer because I'm not an artist :) |

You'll be wanting the Striker, or Striker II rules then, since they are perfect for vehicle design. Can't recall if they have much in the way of rules for countermeasures though. |

@CorSecEng: You might also want to try Dirtside II and Dream Pod 9's 'Silhouette Core Rules' (or one of the earlier products that included the design rules in the book, like Heavy Gear 1 or Jovian Chronicles) Both have several different systems, each one of which is either an attack or a countermeasure for one specific technology. Dirtside also details which tech is not really compatible with which others. |

The MBT 70 is pretty SF -ish in style as is. Nevertheless, some of those hatches could be replaced by PDS turrets, like those on some Future Wars GZG tanks, or maybe they could mount secondary weapons like AA missile launchers. |

One of the problems I see with the make it far future is that often it no longer looks like it would work. Scifi sometimes likes lots of external guns, only outside the armor is not a good place to put them. Same thing with odd shapes, most of them are just one huge shot trap. Another problem is where do you stash the ammo for multiple weapons? Energy weapons of course do not have that problem, but you do need a large enough powerplant. Those are many of the reasons i like Combat Wobat stuff. They do look futuree, but look like you could actualy use them as well. Others as well, but most of them seem to be extensions of what we have now. I do have my share of walkers and overly large vehicles and other less than practical stuff. Bt I do like to havee a few real looking ones. Owen |

no -6mm but its made by Khurasan. so if you beg him – im sure he could upscale it 8) |

No! Not until the Doe and the XM6 are out! He always seems to be skittering from one thing to another. I do admit those do look very good, and I would like a set in 15mm. Just not for a bitthough. Oh, not until the APC or IFV version of the XM6 is out. Owen |

Not really skittering about, waiting for vendors to make the pieces. I actually have upscaled it but the caster, who was paid to clean the print lines off, did not, and I received batches with print lines all over them, so the release of 15mm versions of the MDMS vehicles has been indefinitely delayed. (Same caster who held the Doe for nine months and then sent it back unmade.) My new caster will make quick work of the print lines, but I have just about swamped him with new stuff, so these will be made once the smoke clears a little. But trust me, they WILL be made. |
Moqawama | 22 Jul 2012 4:32 p.m. PST |
I for one trust you, I will keep the 15mm MDMS in mind as suitable purchasing material as soon as they get released! |

I dont suppose you could publish the addreww of the guy that did not do those two right, so that we could go give an example, "to encourage the others"? Your fans seem rabid enough to do that you know. Owen |

I have a mate who'd doing interesting things for a Hammers Slammers: The Crucible force using Roco Minitanks components. I'll get a picture when I can but the M60A2 turret on an M109 chassis looks excellent, I have to say. The Minitanks are small enough (at 1/87) to make pretty convincing 15mm items if the components are carefully selected. And the M60A2 turret always looks a gas anyway! That is begging for a grav or hover transmission. Grav. Keep the engine deck vents and detailing and the general hull shape. Add cooling rings around the main gun barrel for a really, really, nasty 50K Gigajoule laser cannon, and put a tri-barrel powergun in the TC's cupola.
Instant nasty grav tank. Love it. Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net
