I am surprised by the lack of Norman Levies with their easy to gain SAGA ability of 24" shooting .. :O |

He has a unit of serjeants with crossbows, which are IMO a better choice. I don't think you ever want/need more than a single shooting unit in a game of SAGA if you're using A-D, Norman or Vikings – Welsh, Scots and Bretons may be a different matter. Add in the fact that levy don't generate SAGA dice and I'm not convinced they're that good a choice. Especially not when playing Anglo-Danes when the inevitable Intimidation means you'll be needing to use three of your precious SAGA dice to get off a single round of six shots. Much better off spending those dice on getting your knights charging home I reckon. |

If you use the Norman knights to spearhead your attack you'll lose in my experience. The knights fight no better than anyone else when they get counter-attacked. Normans are a shooty army, with knights to finish off the demoralised enemy. You want crossbows and bow armed levies. Remember the Norman ability to get a free second round of shooting with no fatigue, and to re-roll shooting dice. You can get 20 shooting dice per turn with re-rolls. |
