With all the nice historical plastics coming out, has anyone done a mercenary themed (or Dogs of War) Empire army using different historical miniatures? Like plastic greek hoplites for spearmen, plastic vikings maybe for free company, Wargames Factory ashigaru for handgunners, and so on. You could probably find plastics to cover things to represent most units in the Empire army, and have a real dogs-of-war looking army of mercenaries from different places.

I'm certainly looking to historicals for a planned (3E Fantasy)Bretonnian army… and any mercenaries they hire would most likely come from historical lines… Estalians and Tileans and so forth.
Similar to the FOW bruhaha it seems silly to buy overpriced fantasy versions of French knights when cheaper, nicer historical versions are readily available.

For doing an actual DoW army, I would recommend taking a look at the Perry Miniatures ranges for the later 15th century (Wars of the Roses and European Armies).

These are sculpted by the same folks who did the actual GW DoW range in the late 90's, they match size-wise very nicely with that range, and they have similar style of clothing and armour (since the DoW range was heavily inspired by actual 15th century Italian styles).

Not to mention they have three nice plastic kits in these ranges (two of infantry, one of cavalry) plus some nice metals.

I've done it several times using the ancients rules, then using te hpoints costs for mages, etc. works pretty well

Your names have been written down. Suffer not the heretic.

If anyone has pics of a converted WFB army of the east please share.
