OK, the BF model only thing has been beaten to death. Personally, I find this more off putting:

The Masters will now be based solely on battle points (you guys should already know how to behave and have painted models)

When I took part in GW Grand Tournaments, I always thought that scoring was the best at finding the best hobbyist. You were scored on:
1) Battle Points
2) Sportsmanship
3) Army Composition
4) Painting

The combined TOTAL determined the winner and that is the way it should be. What's the point of playing a jerk who primed is Tank Destroyers green and twists every rule for the win?

Personally I find the inclusion of 'soft' scoring such as sports, painting and army comp/history very offputting.

My armies are all painted, I like to think I play sportingly and I like to think my army compositions are reasonable.

I do not want a particularly competitive opponent to deliberately mark me down on my sports score because I beat him and he wants to get back at me (I know for a fact that this has happened not just to me but to many others).

I definitely do not want to have to face a opponent using unpainted miniatures but almost every painting scoring system I have ever seen has a score for unpainted thus effectively sanctions the use of unpainted models. I have only ever faced unpainted models in tournaments where there is a painting score so it fails totally on that point.

As for army history I really don't care what your history is and I know that when I have gone to the effort of doing detailed histories the vast majority of my opponents ignore them anyway.

If I was willing and able to play at the masters I would see battle scores only as a big plus. As I own lots of non BF minatures and I will not on principle play in any BF tournaments while their BF only rule is in place the being able to play is irrelevant.

Sorry to go on but for me I have always played battle score only events and have had a great time at many many many events and almost never had a bad experience.

Now that made me laugh.

BPs sounds fine to me for a competition game, since it is less subjective.

Add separate award categories for the others, if you must.

I'd say John effectively wins the thread.
