I picked up a few random trucks and other vehicles with the idea that I could convert them into rag tag insurgent vehicles. I have a good bit of Sahadeen and some of the Khurasan scifi insurgents. Including all the leaders.

here is the first attempt to up armor a flat bed truck.

I used window screen on the windows and tried to cut some slots for the drivers to see through in the windshield. I took a 72nd scale tiger model part and used it to cover the gas tanks. figuring they needed more protection. The sides of the bed are tracks from that same kit.

The LGS owner had a bunch of those tiger kits in the back. They are extremely brittle and old. He can't sell them so I inherited a good handful for conversion bit.

Here is a comparison shot with the Khurasan figs. Including the Teacup.

I'm still on the fence about what to do with the bed. I might cover it up with something so it doesn't look empty.

The figs fit really nice in the bed.

I figure you can fit a ton of insurgents in it but I can only fit 3 or 4 guys in the bed at a time due to the bases. I might leave it open and use them to represent loaded passengers firing out. Not everyone can so the rest will be huddling in the bed behind the armored walls.

I might hit it with a light coat of primer so I can see what stands out after the bright colors are covered up. I'll be able to file down and adjust anything then.

Got a couple of those, though I will probably just repaint them as city scenery.

Looks good. you might want to take some "spare" 15mm insurgents and make a block insert of figs to represent a "full" truck. Use some of your less favorite doubles perhaps?

A good start! For inspiration, you might want to look at armoured trucks from the Spanish Civil War among other sources:

Love the toy aisle. One of the reason I picked 15mm was how easy Matchbow and Hot Wheels fit in. Guess I better do a post of some of mine one day….
Thanks for the ideas Leland. I'm off to google for more pics.

I have that truck too. But I don't have any insurgents so it will be a standard corporate dump truck. I love the mesh on the wondow and the beefed up bumper.

I don't know how I'm going to paint those screens on the windows. I guess I can prime it black and then dry brush them metallic.

If I use my normal grey then I have no way to paint the windows underneath.

I guess I could also drill out the rivets and remove them but I might be to far into the conversion to do it.

For the bed, you could add a couple pintle-mounted machine guns, too -- sort of like the old Vietnam gun trucks.

Vietnam gun trucks, you say? Also inspiring (I have one of my own in the works for my 15mm sci-fi troops):

The Matchbox HEMTT is pretty close to 1/100, so you've got a head start.

Seen it. It's cool. Just torn between the assorted weapons fit I'll pile on when the time comes…evil grin

I'm leaning towards a 40mm Bofors analogue in the cargo bed, then downhill from there… Mwahahaahaa!!evil grin
