I have unfortunately taken the photo of the first 3 before adding the running rigging, and the ships have now gone to their new owner…

Anyway what do you think?

Impressive work. Particularly like the choices for colors. I have several of these ships in my collection and find a soft spot in my heart for them. That said, I've never found the Santissima Trinidad to be an attractive design, unlike the others. Aesthetics sacrificed to get that extra gun deck.

Nice paint jobs.

I see that you have modeled your ships sailing with the wind (wind dead astern), since your yards are braced square. In that case, wouldn't you want to have the spanker out to the side to catch some wind, instead of having it amidships? Also, the spanker itself seems to be way too high; note the images of contemporary Spanish ships in the link below (scroll down to Spanish). The spanker should be easy to change without damaging the rest of the model.

Thank you for your suggestions! I will consider them on the next models.

Cheers.

Nice.

I was under the impression that the Rayo was a 1st rate ship.

Yes you are right! my mistake. In fact it had 80 cannons up until 1805 (before Trafalgar) when it was fitted with 100 cannons.

the model looks more like the 80 guns version though, so its an easy mistake to make.

However thanks for the clarification.

Cheers

Nice how you were able to get the details to stand out so well on the black ships. I have been afraid to try that.

I just gave a spot of dark grey highlight on the protruding bits.

not too difficoult, as long as you decide from where the light is coming and keep the highlighting consistent!

Great job, how did you do your bases? My son wants to start some ships. He's tired of me land wars!!

Larry,

I am fairly positive those are the resin sea bases from Langton.

Hi,

yes, the bases are the resin ones from Langton. However milliput spread on a sheet of plastic with a sculpting tool also does the trick, check out the thread on my skytrex Victory for an example.
