1 Addams family The distaff side of a couple I know enjoys dressing like the Chas. Addams inspiration for Morticia. One day some Jesus freaks came to their imposing old house to spread the good news of the Bible. She kept quiet during their spiel and for several minutes after, rhythmically stroking the fur on her black cat. Then she turned and called up the stairs "Dear, the virgin sacrifice is here." The kids left post haste. |

Just watched both Addams Family movies with the daughter, and they held up surprisingly well over time. The cast did a great job with what could have been forgettable flicks. The Munsters is good and all, but really, it's all Addams for me. |

The Addams Family was the far better show. The Munsters gets points for Herman working his way up from the sewers, attending law school, and becoming a southern judge. |

We've been to the Broadway show, took the kids, everyone liked it. It's very campy and pays tribute when appropriate to the TV show. The only thing I didn't care for was the 're-imagining' of Grandmama as an ex-hippie (Woodstock jokes), which just didn't work. Exercise your finger snaps. |

1, (un)naturally. The Addams family was a fantastic, but still (almost) plausible extended family of outrageous characters. I'm sure Murphy can share some of his own relations as an illustration of that possibility (cousin Elvira, anyone?) The Addams had _style_ but were not campy. As my wife points out, Gomez and Morticia were passionately in love, they had relatives welcomed in sharing their home, they cared deeply about what their children were being taught in school, gave generously to charities, were well-read, treated their help well and were concerned when Lurch was having difficulties, etc., etc. The Munsters were supernatural vampires, werewolves, golems, ghouls, and whatever un-natural critters (did I mention the pet dragon, "Spot"?) portraying an everyday American family. Herman's house-shaking tantrums ("Darn, Darn, Darn!") lost their appeal after the 3rd time round. |
