Hi Folks,
Just curious, if anyone was still playing Epic these days and if so.. what edition of the rules were you using?

Or were you still just using the figures and another non GW or a modified GW rule set?

Interested to see what folks are using. I have a few and was thinking of using them with future war commander. Which is a nice system but, I do like some of the 40k fluff and style of weapons etc..

MajorB08 Jul 2012 1:29 p.m. PST

Apparently so, see the latest issue of Battlegames.

earthad08 Jul 2012 1:32 p.m. PST

lots of people are into netepic.

i don't really like GW, so don't play myself…

this board is always pretty busy link

Use the figs with Tomorrows War…
Space Marines can be as frightening as they were supposed to be!

If you and your friends enjoy the game, and "nobody else" played it, would that discourage you from playing it?

Calico Bill08 Jul 2012 2:18 p.m. PST

We play a lot of Epic Armageddon here. It averages out about 1 multi-player game a week, and would be our most often played minis game. Only about once a month last year. We've tried Strike Legion & FWC as well, and enjoyed them, but always came back to Epic A.
The group has many different GW Epic Armies though one has an (unused as yet)Kraytonian and the list for it. Just about anyones minis can be used for IG.
Main armies in use were Space Marine, Squat, Eldar Titan, Titan, Imperial Guard, and several varieties of Eldar. Two players are rebasing figs of Tyrannids from FWC back to Epic, so we'll see them shortly. 2 months ago we had a great game between 2 different Chaos Armies.

Wish I played enough to tell you what edition I like best. I have rules going back to when it was just Titans. Space Marine rules didn't seem overly complicated to me when we played them. I played some Epic 40K and didn't care for the generic rules for the variations of vehicles. My understanding is that Epic Armageddon has fixed this.

Haven't tried Net Epic but have heard good things. I assume is is a variation of Space Marine?

I love the models and I have WAY too many. Of course, when someone asks, they invariably want something rare that I don't have enough of ;-)

I do love the Specialist Games more than core GW. I guess because you can field more and have bigger battles without killing the pocketbook as much. But I do have some 40K and some fantasy stuff too; just not enough for a full game.

As to playing? Way to many genres right now. Unfortunately Epic is on the way back burner. As is Man O' War.

Baggy Sausage08 Jul 2012 3:13 p.m. PST

Converted mine to Future War Commander.

Pretty much sums it up.

Between NetEpic and Epic Armageddon I'd say there is a solid following for it still. Obviously not as much as in its heyday but still a lot. Just check to see what the resell market prices are and it shows there are folks still wanting figs.

Thanks,

John

We were playing 2nd edition Space Marine on a bi-monthly-ish basis up until last Winter… but since then it's been all fantasy skirmish… very little scifi at all (coincides with our RPG group starting a Star Wars campaign).
At the moment I'm hankering more for Dirtside and maybe a go at Strike Legion (I'm drawn by its implied versatility but haven't actually bought/read it yet).
The guy I play 6mm with has little or no interest in anything Epic except Space Marine though… so far he has dug in his heels at trying Epic A.

Dan 05508 Jul 2012 5:33 p.m. PST

I don't like GW and I have nothing but contempt for all forms of 40K, but when I was talked into trying Epic Armagedon I found them to be a surprisingly good set of 6mm scifi rules.

Could it be used for horse & Musket combat?

Calico Bill08 Jul 2012 9:14 p.m. PST

Probably. A change of the melee & firefight stats, and you'd have a better set than most that are now out there due to the "blast marker" concept effecting morale, activation, and fighting ability.
MARGARD: Could you tell me a bit about what was said in the latest Battlegames about Epic. Sadly, I'm unlikely ever to see it. Which issue of BG was it if it ever does come out in PDF?

Migod! The afternoons of drawing up army lists for miniatures I didn't have and couldn't afford! Blast from the past. I can smell the squared paper.

Issue 30. The article is basically a review of the rules mechanisms of Epic and how they might have applicability to other periods/genres. Clearly the author plays and enjoys the game.

BugStomper09 Jul 2012 7:57 a.m. PST

I'm still busy painting my 1st and 2nd edition Imperial Guard ( chewinglead.wordpress.com ) and the occasional EpicA/FW Imperial Guard models. Gamewise I play EpicA on and off but am wanting to return to 2nd, or possibly, 1st edition for a bit.

Netepic 5 and trying out Epic:A on the say so of Battlegames No.30

I haven't played epic for ages and thinking of giving it a go, but probably with proxies given the silly silly prices of GW Epic Armageddon.

Was curious to see if folks were still using it. Netepic sounds good. I fancy giving it a try as its free. Which is always handy. :)

blacksmith09 Jul 2012 9:28 a.m. PST

I play FWC: link
NetEpic: link
And planning to play EA this weekend.

Brian Bronson09 Jul 2012 11:08 a.m. PST

I still occasionally put on a game of Space Marines (1st or 2nd ed?; I can't tell which.)

Both games are free, if rules are the only consideration.

Cyclops09 Jul 2012 2:10 p.m. PST

Why are people rebasing for FWC from EpicA and vice versa? They're both very forgiving with base sizes so I don't see why you would put yourself through it.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP10 Jul 2012 7:34 a.m. PST

I'm a big fan of using whatever rules system works for you … without rebasing or "reinventing the wheel" so to speak …

MotttheHoople10 Jul 2012 8:34 a.m. PST

John,
Got Epic:40k, Space Marine/Titan Legions and Adeptus Titanicus. Probably have enough Chaos and Tyranids in the loft for a 1000 – 2000 point game a side.
Have a word with me on Thursday if you still want to give it a try.

Cheers,
Colin

combat wombat10 Jul 2012 7:40 p.m. PST

i like epic Armageddon and future war commander. just inherited a bunch of epic stuff based individually so im going to try micro tomorrows war!

Goose66612 Jul 2012 8:12 a.m. PST

Colin, thanks,, shall do.

Interested to know what folks were doing and if it was still popular.

Kealios12 Jul 2012 6:26 p.m. PST

I definitely still play Epic: Armageddon, and yea, I dabble in other game systems for 6mm as well, bur E:A has a special place is my heart. It was my first 6mm game, first version of the Epic franchise that I played, and I think it flows beautifully.

I use GW models mixed with 3rd party models. Basically, I use whatever I like the looks of!

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART12 Jul 2012 8:00 p.m. PST

yep Space Marine 2. Lost the rules (as of yet) but there are enough fragments left to play the game. Just lost the points system on purpose. A wonderful fast moving game.

Calico Bill13 Jul 2012 3:05 a.m. PST

Several of us had a great game of Epic Armageddon last Monday. AAR & pics: pfe100.blogspot.com.au
Lots of other Epic A pics & games on this site as well. We plan a rematch both this coming Monday & Thursday with 2 guys coming by to learn the rules on Saturday. Yep, Epic Armageddon is on the upswing.

Epic Armageddon is still kicking in the US northeast:

Some very nice looking games there "The Epic Gamer" thanks.. good to see its still got a following.
Hoping to get a game or two in my self and see how I take to it. Cheers.

Odd, the level of detail is pretty similar!

The only place that Epic:A uses that nasty 'combined firepower' mechanic that took all the flavor out of Epic 40k is for artillery bombardments.

L4, you still play Titans/SM1, what other differences are there between that and Epic:A?

Selling off all my Guards and Tau stuff.

Liked the game, but just don't get around to playing it anymore.

Most of my efforts go into 10mm and 15mm now.

Played better than 40k ever did!

Goose66616 Jul 2012 11:05 a.m. PST

@Republic, if you are looking to shift them. I just picked up some Imperial Guard, which started this whole enquiry, so may be interested in your sets.
Email is on the top of the page; link

If you are looking to shif them.

I have been lent a copy of Epic Armageddon so having a flick through that at the moment.

republic of tolworth16 Jul 2012 1:21 p.m. PST

Cheers, most of the stuff is going out on ebay, but if you are adfter anything specific do tell me.

Goose66616 Jul 2012 1:31 p.m. PST

I have a good bunch of imperial infantry. So its support bits I would be interested and the tau. As nice to have an alternative army to fight.

republic of tolworth16 Jul 2012 1:34 p.m. PST

Tau stuff sells for a lot these days. It's been OOP for years. I have about 40 tanks left, but most earmarked for a guy in US.

As for support for the guards, I'll have a dig and report back.

Goose66616 Jul 2012 2:28 p.m. PST

Cheers. Let me know what you find. Thanks.
