What 1/72 plastic figures are you excited to see come out for the rest of 2012? I was reading PSR and although they gave ok reviews of Zvezda's releases, I still feel bad they dropped the historical big sets for an expensive and unimpressive line imho. Maybe it's Hat Industrie's time to really shine again. I'm excited to get their new releases. I'm also liking what I see coming next from Orion and Strelets, not mention Caesar. What about you guys? |

I'm looking forward to Hat's 1/72 Napoleonic Spanish line infantry. |

Strelets: iceCold War sets (WW2 Italians, Hungarians and RKKK cav), the remaining RTW war sets, the Roman sets. Hat: The colonial sets, and the Wurtemberg and Brunswick cavalry. Caesar: More historical Chinese troops (alas, I read troopers and was expecting cavalry but no, just infantry). Mars: An occasional dark horse. I enjoyed their Haiduks and Imperial LI sets, and their Hussite stuff. Not A class but unique and getting better. Orion: Never know what Haron/DDS will surprise us with. Their Israelis were world class. |

I'm looking forward to the HaT Napoleonic Spanish too. |

Caesar have C13th knights and crusades figures on the way. I dearly hope the knights are mounted or at least part mounted part foot and the crusader infantry are suitable for the same time period. Caesar's release schedule is hit and miss but, PLEASE, let these come out soon. Otherwise not sure really. Any other medieval sets. Lucky Toys have some C3rd Romans coming out and I'm tempted by Strelets Caesarian Romans as long as the figures aren't too rough. |

Hat Seven Years War Prussians in 1/72nd are the ones I'm keen to get hold of. |
abelp01 | 07 Jul 2012 1:31 p.m. PST |
BTW which of the 1/72 makers are using hard plastic? |
skinkmasterreturns | 07 Jul 2012 2:05 p.m. PST |
I'm waiting for the new Hat French Napoleonic, with them being given the same treatment that they've given the Prussians-marching,action and command. |

I'm looking forward to HAT Seven Years War and the new Chinese figures from Caesar. |

HaT SYW Prussians, NAP Spanish and Austrians in helmets and the Russians. |

We need a good set of colonial 1890's British Infantry in Puttees . HAT are you listening :-) |
Marc the plastics fan | 08 Jul 2012 1:45 p.m. PST |
ab – as far as I know, no 1/72 manufactures use hard plastic – spears and bayonets and legs break too easily. Why though? Oh, and Nap British command from HaT for me :-) |
Pauls Bods | 09 Jul 2012 3:49 a.m. PST |
@Marc, Emhar?..virtually the whole range is hard plastic..the stuff similar to kit plastic..it´s glueable. The Emhar crested kights
they were announced at the beggining of the year..but so far nothing (?)
the colonial sets from HaT and like Alex..the Caesar C13th knights and crusades figures but that will probably take a while yet. Cheers paul |

As for hard plastic, The Plastic Solder Company makes those. As well as Valiant (in case you consider them as being 1/72). |
Marc the plastics fan | 09 Jul 2012 8:12 a.m. PST |
Nope – Valiant are not 1/72, and even some of the PSC seem a bit "robust" for the scale. Emhar – I thought they were poseable plastic – not rigid styrene like kits? Happy to be wrong of course. And Paul – loved that castle :-) Amazed what you did with that old Airfix one I sent you ;-) |
Pauls Bods | 09 Jul 2012 1:41 p.m. PST |
@Marc The Airfix castle along with the fort sahara are still on the to list. I´m trying to get hold of a couple more ..to do something like this;
Cheers Paul |

I'm excited about Caesar's upcoming releases. Is their fantasy line still alive? Hannants has zero stock of the current line. |
cooey2ph | 12 Jul 2012 9:30 a.m. PST |
Strts is a bit of a mixed bag but I keep buying their sets. They have a certain charm much like thhe old school metals. Orion's foray into Byzantium sounds good too. I just hope they have better sprues with less flash. |
Pauls Bods | 12 Jul 2012 12:22 p.m. PST |
The Caeser fantasy line seems to be slowly running out in the shops and dealers. They (caeser) say on thier website "available" but as they went for nearly two years with a happy X-mas message and the site is rarely updated, this means nothing. Basic rule with caeser seems to be..If you find them..buy them. I missed out on the WWII underground resistors set(would make some good 1930´s / 40´s gangters types) link still available but getting pricey.. Cheers paul |

Dont know if Ill ever collect plastic 1/72 again but Im looking forward to seeing Hats 7YW line. I still think Revelles 7YW Prussian Hussars are the best 1/72 plastic set ever made. |
cooey2ph | 15 Jul 2012 7:27 a.m. PST |
Shame if Caesar stops the fantasy line. Although I would've wantred different look/design from their figs, they still filled a big gap in 1/72 figs. |
Marc the plastics fan | 17 Jul 2012 5:27 a.m. PST |
Paul – I shall look to see if I have a spare set of those resistors – not in a rush are you though, as it will take a while. And good luck with that castle :-) |

What's frustrating is trying to fill in TO&Es from plastic sets. There's typically not enough machine guns/mortars/infantry AT weapons to make an accurate platoon. |
number4 | 17 Jul 2012 8:40 a.m. PST |
"What's frustrating is trying to fill in TO&Es from plastic sets." I hear you there! They always seem to be awash with flame throwers and Tommy guns
.thankfully companies like Hat and Zvezda come to the rescue with some of their Heavy Weapons sets. It's also possible to convert some of the more useless/bizarre plastic poses with metal after market weapons from SHQ The prone Bren gunner here was the daft 'clubbing with rifle' pose from Italeri (ex Esci); he got a helmeted head from the 'wounded buddy' cameo in the same set.
In this case, the gun came from the crawling figure pushing his Bren in the dirt (!); he in turn received a metal SHQ rifle and became the Bren number 2 man
|
number4 | 17 Jul 2012 8:45 a.m. PST |
More variations – the three figures on the right are from Caesar flame thrower guys; one got promoted to Lt. and given a Sten gun while another carries a PIAT and a slung rifle, and the third a Bren, all from SHQ
Behind them are grenade throwers with the Sten simply swapped out for a rifle. |

Clever conversions Number 4. Too true about the plastic sets lacking MG´s etc..and the WWII germans always overdose on figs with MP´s. @Marc
thanks. No rush, my 1930´s Gangsters are on hold at the moment. I might be adding a few civilian figs using the old Airfix Railway figures soon though. Cheers paul |
John Thomas8 | 19 Jul 2012 7:58 p.m. PST |
Fortunately, eBay makes it easier to fill the holes with metal specialist figs. I can't buy boxes of plastics and just pull out the MGs/mortars
if they're in the house I feel obliged to paint them
