The Battle Barn gamers will be hosting a AWI game using Black Powder rules Saturday at Historicon 2012. The game is based on the 1781 Battle for Petersburg VA. Hope to meet some of you AWI and Black Powder fans in Fredricksburg. The PEL/Game info is below.

S-145 AWI Battle for Petersburg 1781
AWI: 11 AM: Length: 4: Hosted by: Ronald Bingham: Scale: 28mm: Rules: Black Powder: No. of Players: 8.

On the morning of April 25, 1781, Major Gen. Phillips left City Point, Virginia, with 2,500 British troops and marched towards Petersburg. Just east of village of Blandford, the British were met by Major Gen. von Stueben and over 1,000 militiamen.

Having fought colonial militia in the past, Phillips believed the Virginians would only "fire two volleys and flee," so he ordered an all out assault. Von Stueben had other plans!

This is a AWI" fighting withdrawal" scenario designed by the Battle Barn and uses Black Powder rules! No players under 16 and Black Powder or Hail Ceaser experience preferred.

In prep for H'con we played Black Powder WED night and yesterday.

WED the Rebel militia caught two BTN of loyalist in march column on a road…after 4 turns the whole British/loyalist force was slaughtered. Probably the most lop sided victory since we stared to play Black Powder.

Yesterday they got their revenge! The rebel militia held their own defending a creek but after 12 turns of musket fire and a few hand to hands the casualty toll took hold and forced the Americans to retreat. The British commander paid a compliment to the enemy militia as they went head to head against the redcoats. If they would had held in the last HtoH the Americans would had won.

Hope to see you at H'con and our clubs 1781 Battle for Petersburg.

Can one still sign up for the game if they don't have BP rules experience? For me at least, I like to sign up for convention games so that I can learn first hand how to play various sets of rules. If I didn't know how to play BP but wanted to learn, it seems that a convention game would be just the ticket.

I'm with Der Alte Fritz, in that I go to conventions to try out new systems, not play what I do the rest of the year (though I have played things I know). I also have a problem with No players under 16 since, back in the dark ages, when I was under 16 I was brought into gaming with miniatures by a group of gamers who just wanted an opponent and showed me the ropes. I did not have a parent who gamed, so I would have had no exposure without their invite. Being well over 16 now I still don't mind gaming with the under 16 set.

And I am interested in BP after having read multiple AARs here. I suppose there will be other games to find using the rules.

I have never turned away a player if slots are not all filled. I do ask that all "newbies" be willing and open minded to a new set of rules. BP is a fun and very fast play game system BUT there are some odd rules to the game such as a possiblity of an INF unit moving up to 36inches in a turn.

So please sign up and if all the slots are filled stop by the game about 15min prior in case we get a few no-shows. I think with the 2-game pre-registation this may happen a lot?

"Walk on's" are first come first play after all registered gamers are present.

I think it is more a matter of your written description being different from your actual intent (which I take to be more "user friendly"). grin

I'm coming , but missed the pre-reg. Can you hold me a spot?

Pat,

Sorry can not promise a slot.

I have no idea if the game is "sold out" due to pre-reg? Please visit the Registration desk and see if there are any slips left. If it is sold out come by the game table about 30min before the game starts. If we have no-shows (in 6 yrs of HMGS GMing I always have no shows) I will then take walk on players. They get in on a first come-first to a play basis.

I start my games on time too. If you have a game slip and are not there at start time you are out!

There will be a 15+ min explantion of Black Powder. This is needed due the the game being differnet in many ways to the norm…which is one reason I put BP "expereince prefred?" It shortens the talk time and the expereinced guys help me run the game. For you BP newbies you should have the BP system down by turn 3 and be running your own charts soon after?

The Battle Barn Gamers are hosting 5 games this year. As many of you know we strive for fun games and great terrain.

See ya in F'burg.

We had a great game at H'con. The secanrio worked well and from the smiles on faces the players had a fun.

BIG thanks to the guys from Tenn who stepped up to command the forces. Thier Black Powder expereince and knowledge helped me as a GM with the BP newbies.

I hope to post and AAR with photos soon and will link it when I do…
