I've been reading all sorts of rulesets recently, and now I'm itching to actually start to play some games. The only problem is that I need some terrain. The topic of paper models has come up a couple of times recently on here, so I figured I'd go out and find some free ones and see what I could do quickly and easily. The beauty of having models available in PDF format is that it's really easy to scale things up or down. As such I expect to be using a variety of 6, 15 and 28mm scenery, depending on what I can find. My first build is Germy's 6mm dropship (available for free here: germy.co.uk/papermodels.html ) I wanted to see how this one came out as it was, as it looked like a fairly decent size on the page. I didn't rescale it, just printed it out. Turns out it's a good size – nearly 15cm/6 inches long. Here are some shots with a wip GZG wheeled APC, some UNSC light troops, and lastly some Rebel Minis Sons of Thunder (whom it really suits IMO).

The vast majority of pdf terrain is for 25/28mm, which is eadily rescaled at 60% for 15mm figures. Thete is usually not a loss of detail nor construction issues at that reduction. Good luck with it! |

Very nice looking! If you want more 15mm sci-fi terrain, check out Dream Pod 9's free paper terrain files for Heavy Gear. Very nice modular stuff. It's intended for 15mm, but I use it for 10mm. link Also, there's a bunch of great buildings intended for 10mm Mechwarrior that would probably look fine next to 15mm figs. link The pic below shows both being used with 10mm figs. The tan colored stuff is DP9 and the dark grey stuff is Mechwarrior
Lastly, don't forget Proxie Models 15mm buildings. Only 4 bucks each! proxiemodels.com/terrain.aspx |

Paper buildings are nice and inexpensive, but you'll find they wear much better if you use them as templates to build in plasticard or something. |

That is awesome! Plus brilliant, because it was meant for one scale and you saw the potential to use it for another. I like it just the way it is. But if anyone wanted to try something different with it, I wonder if these might be possible with that printout: 1) Build it without the wings and add tracks to the bottom of it to create a Jawa Sandcrawler; or 2) Turn the body and wings upside down, but I guess that would mean using a substitute print for the "bottom" (now the top) Just a thought. I normally use WorldWorks Games Sci-Fi cardstock buildings and interiors, but these are nice additions for city buildings. Note, that WWG is normally for 28mm, but I just reduce the scale for 18mm. WWG has many modular sets that provide great combinations and variety; you just have to print and build it. Sci-Fi link Modern link |
