Just as the title states. I am planning on starting a new project for this summer/fall; building a couple of English Civil Wars armies in 6mm; so, my question to you, fellow TMP members is: What do you think of the Baccus miniature line for this period? I own a lot of Baccus Napoleonics and really like them, so I guess ECW will be fine miniatures also, but first I would like to check some of your opinions. Thank you very much! |

I have both Parlimentarian and Royalist Baccus 6mm ECW armies and find them to be fine figures with pretty much every figure type available. Easy to paint, very sturdy in use and look good when complete. |

The only issue I have with my Baccus ECW figures is the lack of variety in poses but en masse they look pretty damned good all the same. |

I have a great pile of Hodden Grey. They look the part and are lovely. Eric |

I find the musketeers pose a bit boring, but quite detailed and servicable. Overall it is a very nice range, and it certainly is complete. The ECW generals look fantastic when painted up. |

Nice choice of book there Khusrau. Nice mini's too. I particularly like the basing. |

What are the pikes like? Are they quite fragile? |
DBS303 | 24 Jul 2012 9:56 a.m. PST |
Not as fragile as you might think, despite being nicely slender (ie not telegraph poles). They bend easily but I have had very few indeed break off. The most likely casualties are in fact the English musketeers (not so much the Scots) since I think the mould is becoming a little tired, and the muskets need a fair bit of cleaning up for heavy flash – sometimes a musket or a whole musketeer breaks in the process. But that is absolutely the only criticism of the whole range, and I am presently painting a large batch up. |

Given Pete Berry has been reserching and re-enacting the ECW for a very long time (= yonks!) you can rely on the figures being as accurate as possible in 6mm. As to lack of variety in pose – well it is 6mm so there are limits of whay one can achieve but given in a real regiment too much variety of movement/pose would almost certainly result in chaos, esp to those who insist on lolling about in the pike block. En masse they look good, some years ago one of the Sheffield club took two armies modelled at 1:1 (about 10,000 figures each IIRC) on tour around the UK gaming circuit. |

Khusrau, those figures look great! What width are your bases? Do you find 3x 'foot' strips fit a 60mm wide base OK? I'm just about to begin a Baccus ECW project myself, and the castings look fine to me, undercoated shot below. Nicely detailed considering the tiny scale! Lee.

Sorry about the threadomancy, but my friend and I have just started 6mm ECW using Baccus figs too and they are really, really nice. The basic Roundhead force is done now and work has commenced on the Royalists. You can see pics at my blog here: link |
