Hi everyone, I want to get into the ACW, and have decided that 10mm is the way to go. I am mostly concerned about the financial aspect, as I have to explain to the wife why I have started yet another new project while so many others lie waiting desperately for my attention (kind of like my wife). So now I turn to you all for advice on which direction to take. My only requirement is that the figures be sent from somewhere in the European Union. After a quick bit of research, here is what I seem to have discovered (feel very free to correct me if I am wrong!): Pendraken seem to be the cheapest I have come across. Old Glory come in the biggest amounts Magister Militum seem to be occupy the middle ground on cost. So any advice on which to choose? It doesn´t have to be from the above three, these are just the main ones I have come across in my search. Thanks very much for any and all opinions! |

Kallistra. They are 12mm, but really great castings. If cost is more the concern, Pendraken is the way to go. They are 10mm and also nicely sculpted. Comparison pics can be found on my blog: link |

Thanks Buckeye, that is extremely useful, nice work! |

You should be aware that 10mm ACW figures are unfortunately divided into three fairly incompatible groups. On the "small" side are GHQ, Starfort/Langton, and perhaps he old Perrin line (now Magister Militum). The combination of GHQ and Starfort arguably provides the best sculpted figures, but also the most expensive. On the "medium" side, you have Pendraken's ranges (new and old), as well as the old AIM line (if it becomes available again?), and Old Glory – and Perrin might fit in there too. Pretty good figures all around, and between the various ranges they cover most everything – and they are the cheapest choice as well. Kallistra's new range unfortunately added a third "large" category to the mix. Very well sculpted figures, but fairly expensive, and they pretty much stand alone in terms of size – so it's all or nothing. I went with GHQ, but could have easily gone with Pendraken – the choice really came down to a (since wayward) partner's preference. You can't really go wrong with any of them. Cheers, Christopher |

I noticed from Buckeye´s blog the HUGE difference in size for figures said to be the same scale. I am leaning towards Pendraken at this point, as the quality and price seems to fit the bill, but the Kallistra are lovely

Just to tempt you further, we're about to release a huge new ACW range, there's a list here: link There's some preview pics as well here: link The first batch will be released on July 1st, and should include a lot of the foot, cavalry, and some artillery. The rest will follow on in August. Give me a shout if I can help with anything, or if you'd like some samples. |

There's always Irregular : irregularminiatures.co.uk 15p for foot figure. 12.5p if you buy in 100 piece army bags. But probably not the best sculpts. |

I looked at their stuff when I was getting into 1/300th WWI aircraft (and yes, a completed project!), and while the price was good, as you say, the sulpts were not exactly works of art. Thanks though, I hadn´t thought about them. |

I just started a 10mm ACW project myself. I went with Pendraken for infantry, Old Glory for artillery and a mix for command figures. Looks like they will go well together and the figures appear like they will need little or no cleanup. Paul |

Why did you decide to mix em, is there something wrong with the Pendraken arty, or something beautifully right with the Old Glory? The no clean up part sounds wonderful! |

We've got a new range of them coming out; Blazeaway.com.au Edit: sorry, I missed your EU requirement, no stockist there yet, disregard |

I went with Old Glory. With the army card, the price is VERY good. Service is excellent. |

Minifigs are still available in Europe. It is the U.S. that is having problems currently. If Pendraken is casting new figures, I would go with them. The stuff they have put out in the last few years is amazing, although for other periods than ACW. Highly recommended! |

@Matt, they only arrived from the designer the other day, so we've put them straight into a mould. I'll be taking pics of them for the release though, so keep an eye on the website on Sunday. |

I started 10mm ACW this year, and I sampled several ranges. Hands down, Pendraken were my favorites for cost, poses, and sturdiness. Perrin and Minifigs were also good and had wider ranges. Love the 10mm! |

I'd go with Pendraken, MM or Perrin. OG have some nice equipment too but come in 30mm strips. Personally I'd avoid GHQ because I find their rifles are too prone to bending. Purely personal prejudice on my part. I'd also avoid Kallistra as the are closer in size true 15mm rather than the other manufacturers, General observation; 10mm are a joy to paint compared tothe larger scales. |

Texas Jack, I went with Old Glory for the artillery because while both are nice I found Pendraken's to be a bit undersized. Paul |

Thanks Paul, I just wonder if my old eyes would notice the difference! |

I've been painting up a Pendraken ACW army over the last year to do both sides of Bull run for Fire n fury(I wanted to have a target instead of just 'a large army'). Very few figures needed tidying up, the service has been good to the UK and they've just released a whole new set of ACW figures, giving them a good range of troop types. |
