Sounds like they are scamming their audience. They might have meant that a limited number of purchases get the discount, but should have stated that if that was the case. |
korsun0 | 27 Jun 2012 6:21 a.m. PST |
Same here; when I ordered, prior to an email saying it had been extended, there were books left, namely 47 of one and 88 of another. I get a refund and an explanation of " technical difficulties" a few days later. Mighty mighty unimpressed and no response to an email query by me asking for clarification. 20% off my next order by way of alternative is no use to me at all. |
A Twiningham | 27 Jun 2012 6:22 a.m. PST |
Several folks over on Lead Adventure had the same experience. I almost bit myself. Now I'm glad I didn't. |
Rrobbyrobot | 27 Jun 2012 6:27 a.m. PST |
Looks like something to remember. Isn't Foundry a company that doesn't seem to like their customers? Seems I heard something to that effect awhile ago. Maybe an opinion in Wargames Illustrated. Not sure. |

Yeah, I got my order of the Medieval Warfare rulebook (sale price $24.49 USD, current list price is $51.02 USD) refunded. When I ordered it I think it has something like 80 in stock. It was the only itemI have on that order. |
Patrick Sexton | 27 Jun 2012 6:49 a.m. PST |
Same here. They refunded three quarters of my purchase but didn't mention what was actually being sent. |
Chris B | 27 Jun 2012 6:56 a.m. PST |
I had the same experience. I'd like to know who ordered a discounted book and actually got one. |
Gamer Diogenes | 27 Jun 2012 7:16 a.m. PST |
I haven't actually received them yet, but I did get shipping confirmation on the four books I had ordered: China, Burma and Indo-china, Japan and Korea, and Savannah Knights. Supposedly they'll get here late this week or early next. |
79thPA | 27 Jun 2012 7:20 a.m. PST |
I haven't received a refund or shipping notice. Pretty cheesy way of doing business. Who regulates this type of thing across the pond? |
richarDISNEY | 27 Jun 2012 7:21 a.m. PST |
Odd. I am now kinda glad I didn't order.
 |
fairoaks024 | 27 Jun 2012 7:26 a.m. PST |
i ordered 3 and am in the UK, haven't received a shipping notification or a refund. I wonder what's going on? I'll leave it for a week, as that's how long it should take second class if they've been posted before i email and ask regards jim |
CPT Jake | 27 Jun 2012 7:39 a.m. PST |
Seems pretty ty of them to do this. |
korsun0 | 27 Jun 2012 7:44 a.m. PST |
Methinks they should explain themselves, it's poor form really. |
Timmo uk | 27 Jun 2012 7:48 a.m. PST |
Some on WD3 are reporting the same thing. Seems to be very poor response from Foundry, to what appeared to be a genuine offer. |
Sane Max | 27 Jun 2012 7:52 a.m. PST |
I have heard a dozen angry tales for every 'got mine cheap' Foundry really used to have Very good figures and quite good customer service. Neither is now the case. It's just another 'Assassin's Thumb' Pat |
Oh Bugger | 27 Jun 2012 8:03 a.m. PST |
Sounds like very shoddy practice so I'm glad I didn't bother buying the China one. |
M C MonkeyDew | 27 Jun 2012 8:17 a.m. PST |
Same here. Two books. Order confirmed. Refund issued without explanation. Bad form at the very least. Still, not out any money so it could have been worse. Wonder at the percentage of orders that included miniatures that were filled versus those that were for books only. |
Chris B | 27 Jun 2012 8:23 a.m. PST |
I ordered some miniatures with my book. At least I'm getting the minis with free shipping. |
vdal1812 | 27 Jun 2012 9:26 a.m. PST |
I ordered 4 books and as far as I know they are being shipped. I received confirmation that they had been shipped out in seperate boxes. |
boggart | 27 Jun 2012 11:03 a.m. PST |
Chris B: "I'd like to know who ordered a discounted book and actually got one." I ordered Tribes of Legend, and it's been confirmed as shipped. I've bought most of the Foundry books, but never paid full price so I've always found them honest in standing by whatever offer they've had. Though I've always ordered early. |
Rapier Miniatures | 27 Jun 2012 11:12 a.m. PST |
Well I got the 1 book I ordered 2 days later. |
Cheriton | 27 Jun 2012 12:52 p.m. PST |
Dear Customer ,Foundry Order Number Reference xxxxx Just to let you know that your order dated 2012-06-22 00:28:47 was picked and packed by me and sent in 2 boxes by SPRING GLOBAL MAIL on 2012-06-22 15:32:54. Hmmm, when I ordered three of the books there were 50+ copies available. I received the email above 8 hrs after placing the order from California. I have had not other emails about refunds, etc. My three titles, FWIW, were all Ian Heath Eastern Asia titles. Foundry has always, in my decade-plus association with them, moved in decidedlystrange ways.

altfritz | 27 Jun 2012 2:11 p.m. PST |
Well, I got the refund. The book is listed as still available on the website, so it wasn't refunded because they sold out. The thing is *only* Foundry's mail order customers got the offer. That is, only the people that actually are buying Foundry stuff. So only Foundry's "regulars" are the ones that are getting screwed. |
taskforce58 | 27 Jun 2012 3:29 p.m. PST |
My order was placed on the 22nd. The refund came yesterday. |
korsun0 | 27 Jun 2012 3:59 p.m. PST |
First email about the sale 21/Jun My order placed 22/Jun and paid for. Email extending sale 22/Jun Email sale ends 24/Jun refund on 26/Jun with this explanation: "Note from merchant Hello We are very sorry to inform you that there has been a technical fault with our website and the books that were on offer are no longer available. We have therefore refunded your account with the amount of the book/s. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and would like to offer you 20% discount on your next order. If you would like to give us a ring or send an email we can arrange this for you." Books are still for sale on the website despite the crud written above, no response to my email querying things. So if you were expected to buy figures with the books they should have said so. To me, this is an example of not honouring your promise. Note the total lack of comment from Foundry here concerning this. I would have thought that they could have put out a notice on TMP to clarify things and resolved the issue. Or is this an example of complete disdain for the punter? |
Skeptic | 27 Jun 2012 5:47 p.m. PST |
That reminds me of the time when I could see a horde on the non-UK version of their website as discounted and yielding free shipping, yet they vehemently denied that there was free shipping, even when I offered to send them a screenshot

Ordered Tribes of Legend (65 still remaining at this price) early Sunday morning then had an refund notification from paypal Tuesday (which is being held while they investigate why I have been refunded!) but no note or mail from Foundry saying why. Have rang them and they said the stock levels were wrong and to mention about the 20% off when I place my next order

General Monty | 28 Jun 2012 7:38 a.m. PST |
Happened to me as well. Ordered a copy of Tribes of Legend, with 63 in stock, only to receive the email that they didn't have any in stock! You'd think that someone might have noticed that 63 books were missing before they started the sale
|
Goose666 | 28 Jun 2012 7:49 a.m. PST |
I would repor them to trading standards. Let Trading Standards investigate. They can request full details to prove if it was technical difficulties and check on stock levels etc. If it was genuine errors then, not a problem for them. If it was not, well they deserve to be caught. You can also report them to Paypal if you paid that way for the item. As it is an effectively a fishing scheme for your contact details. |
Mick A | 28 Jun 2012 10:52 a.m. PST |
Just had an e-mail from Foundry, seems there were hell of a lot of people who had a refund! Oh, and thanks to the way it was sent, I now have all your e-mail addresses

Just received the same thing. I'm interested to see what their new pricing policy will be. The middle paragraph makes it sound like they are trying to salvage a sinking ship, but then they go ahead and off a lot of potential customers. They can keep their 20%. They have things I want, but they don't have anything I need. |
The Colonel | 28 Jun 2012 11:53 a.m. PST |
I got hit by this as well. I'm tempted by the 20%, but only because I'm thinking of a summer project of a Viking army. It's a strange way of doing business. The Colonel |
Skeptic | 28 Jun 2012 2:42 p.m. PST |
According to an e-mail that I received today, it will be a uniform price for all regions. |

Bernard, send this to all the suckers will you? Make sure you cut this out before you send it, not like last time lol lol. Bryan.Dear Foundry Ex-Customer! How are you? Long time no leech! Foundry have been going through some changes recently. I have started taking sugar in my tea and Kevin the Post Boy is now called Sandra. However, most dramatically, Bryan Ansell dived into his swimming pool this morning and banged his head, as it was only half-full of money rather than brimfull as he likes it. In light of this, we have taken a long hard look at some of the things we have been doing. You already know about the Price cut, and the decision to run a sale that lasted 8 minutes. But there is more! Foundry have decided, after much soul-searching, to reverse our recent policy of getting our new figures sculpted by a blind, fingerless man who has had human anatomy carefully explained to him, but has never actually seen any. In addition, we are going to stop getting our new releases painted by a palsied chimp, and will be looking for someone who does not hold their paintbrush in their chattering teeth. Looking forward to seeing more money. Please? link
