I'm starting an Imperial Guard army (after many years!) and am looking for some help on bits and pieces. I like the look of the Cadians and will be using them, along with a lot of Pig Iron Productions accessories to make them look a little more 'solid'. One of the things I don't quite get with IG are the Stormtroopers and the Kasrkin. Are they the same thing? I'm not massively keen on any of the Games Workshop models for these and need some decent proxies, or other accessory pieces to modify basic Cadians into carapace armoured 'hard nuts'. I also want to have a lot of heavy stubbers on my vehicles (just think they will look better) and I could do with some help on making 'gun shields' for the vehicle. My previous efforts on this kind of thing have always ended up being a little fragile. Any help is gratefully received. |

They are the same. The descriptive, "Stormtroopers," is generic, while, "Kasrkins," gives them a home world. Effectively, because the rules changed with the Kasrkin/Stromtrooper go-to weapons so much and the force org changed re: Veterans, Kasrkins/Stormtroopers got the short end of the stick and hardly anyone ever takes them, opting instead for more the effective Veterans. Might want to look into the IG heavy weapons gun shields and adding plasticard. eBay bitz orders. |

Karskins are a named variant of stormtrooper
just like Cadians and Catachans are a named variant of Imperial Guard This is another version of the Stormtrooper
There was another older version that wore berets, but I am currently not finding a picture of them. |

Thanks Haywire. Problem is I don't like the Kasrkin or the ones you posted. Just something about the GW sculpts for these that I don't like. Maybe simply the 'overly chunky' look. I much prefer a 'streamlined' kit look. The idea being that whilst the guys are meant to be more heavily armoured, etc, I don't want the feeling of bulk, I want the feeling that they have been lavished with better quality kit. |

Oh and here is what the old ones looked like
Well
you can also go with Space Marine Scouts or if you are adept at sculpting, add the extra plates and kneepads as you see fit. Searching on the web I found these to be pretty neat

Really? The Kasrkin models are GREAT in person. They're wearing something akin to Cadian fatigues and a heavier, better equipped version of their armor. As far as GW metals go too they're VERY affordable at roughly $4 USD a figure if you buy a squad. (Or they were when I bought two squads and some support weapons.) Kasrkin just feel to me like the best route to go when pairing stormtroopers with cadians. Otherwise, I'd suppose you can go to Chapterhouse and grab their hot shot lasguns and get Berets from another and slap it together on Cadian bodies. Been considering doing that myself just as a customization project. Edit* Missed those conversions when I posted. Those are pretty good looking! |

Like Wolfprophet, I ADORE the last metal versions of the Kasrkin sculpts. Had a blast startling my opponents with Kasrkin Sgt's armed with Lightning Claws or Power Fist or Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield under the older Daemonhunters codex (they were allowed!) With the change in the codex, they can't do that anymore, but I still have the conversions and about 35-40 Kasrkin troopies awaiting another project

I like the older IG models with character. Mordians, Praetorians, Tallarn, Attilans, Calhallans, etc. The Vostroyans and Kasrkin were good, and the Cadians sort of 'bog standard.' Always hated the Catachans, though. Rambo. Pffft. |
