I got lucky and managed to buy very cheap packs of plastic toy soldiers. Posted pictures at the blog. Unfortunately though, I'm not much of a modern gamer so I'm not sure whether these are from the Gulf war or the more recent Iraq or Afghanistan campaigns. Your opinions would be helpful and welcome. Thanks!

Those look pretty good. I don't think I've seen them in any US Dollar Stores. Looks like Gulf War kit, maybe even usable for Somalia in 1993.

Those appear to be recasts of Bravo Team/Forces of Valor figs. There are poses I haven't seen though. They probably sold the molds.

Wish we had those here in the states for that price :)

They have popped up on here before, possibly made by Calpe.
They do look similar to Bravo Team, some remind me of upscaled 20mm figures by Ceasar.
They pop up on eBay quite often, a seller here in the UK was offering some quite recently.

Definitely not the Calpe figures, they are a weird mix of WWII and Modern.

They look like Desert Storm, but the gear is not quite right.

Hm…

CorporalTrim26 Jun 2012 3:46 p.m. PST

Not half bad.

While I would buy them if I could find them (and I will be looking now!), I've looked at 54mm moderns before.
My problem is I can't seems to find any "bad guys".
Any suggestions there?

I'll be checking for the other stuff that was displayed together with these.

I `m not interested in modern war games keep looking at these packs most are awful, some figures with a bit of wok should look OK as display figs

Tamiya US infantry, dragon marines in 1/35 look way nicer.
Opponents are tricky though.
It seems ICM (who?) do a pack of 4 mujahadeen but a quick check and not even hannants stock em.

I reckon you're way better with 20mm.
Or stick to ww2 if you want to use 1/35th scale.
There's a shed load of ww2 stuff available.

They look 1990s-1980s to me. Very nice sculpts for something from a dollar store. Nice find!

@ds6151

Armies in plastic may have some afghan rebels in that scale

They do look nice. Wish they were in the states. AIP tuareg and afghans could be used as opfor as well as taliban figs from toysoldierco.

Smokey Roan03 Dec 2013 12:28 p.m. PST

Yes, AIP has modern bad guys.
