I set up my table for a solo game that I will play on July 4th to celebrate Independence Day. Americans versus the British somewhere near Philadelphia: link Both armies will be comprised of Fife & Drum Miniatures, with about 10 to 12 Continental and Militia regiments facing off against 7 or 8 British regiments. Terrain (trees, fences and buildings) were made by Herb Gundt. The game mat is from The Terrain Guy.

Nice. What rules do you use. |

Beautiful, and the Hessians will make it even more spectacular! |

Very nice setup! You've got to love the Terrain Guy's Mats. -Bryan |

I use my own "Sons of Liberty" rules (not to be confused with another set of the same name – mine were published first ). Figure to man ratio in this game is 1:10. Regiments range from 16 to 48 figures, with 24 or 32 being the most common size. |

Very nice looking. What is the table size? I am hoping to get reading glasses so I can see to paint figures again. I've been fighting it a long time now, but I have lost the war. I like the idea of a rev war game on the forth. Have fun. It looks great. Matthew |

My game mat is 6ft by 12ft, although I can extend the table to 15ft using terrain squares, if I wish. Since this game is being run as part of a scenario article that I'm writing for one of the wargame magazines, I thought that 10ft to 12ft is reaching the maximum length of many of the readers, so I kept it at 12ft. I could also use side tables to increase the depth by 2.5ft on each side of the table, but again, for this scenario, I am not using the side tables as the average wargamer probably does not have the space for extra tables. Matthew: I started using reading glasses for my painting of figures and it really makes a difference. Take a figure with you to the drug store and see how it looks as you try on the 1.5x and 2.0x or higher magnification of the reading glasses that they have in stock. I think that mine are 2.0x. Jim |

" I thought that 10ft to 12ft is reaching the maximum length of many of the readers," Over here in the mother country its more like 6 foot, its worth noting to North American scenario writers that table sizes like this are extremely rare in my neck of the woods and instantly reduce the usefulness of the article
without a bit of tweeking of course. It does look a lovely game though and the nits look a decent size- I look forward to seeing the finished article. |

I think that 10' – 12' is probably pushing the edge for your average gamer in the US as well. Those of use with basements can get away with sizes in that range though. My favorite basement setup featured a 7' wide by 16' table to which we could add and addition 4' "wing" on either end. The only way I could get the space for a game that size now would be at one of the FLGSs. |

12fts fine, I'll just halve it and use sensible size figures like my Pendraken 10mm. ;) |

Nice looking terrain and game. The only time I see tables that big are at conventions. Otherwise it is the standard 6'x4' table. |

Looks good DAF. Do keep us posted on it. |

How do you reach the center of a 7 foot wide table? Mine is 12x6 and I can barely reach the center. |

Beautiful table and models as always Herr Fritz. If I didn't already have hundreds of 28mm AWI figures I would be investing in yours. Make sure to enjoy lots of hot dogs with your 4th battle day! Mike B |

@mbsparta: there's no law that says that you can't start all over. That's what I did when I saw the Minden SYW figures (from the same sculptor, Richard Ansell). No regrets on my part. |

That is a breathtaking set up. I would have to rent a hall for a table that size, but for a game like that it would be well worth it. |

I am here to say that having hundreds (HUNDREDS!!! THOUSANDS!!!) of 25/28mm AWI figures is not a bar to putting DAF's figures on the table to accompany them. There is no jarring discrepancy, at all. |

I was looking at the table this evening and found that I could easily crop about 3 feet off the length of the table and still have room to run the game scenario. So now we are looking at a 9ft by 6ft table for this scenario. This ought to be doable in both the UK and the US. Fife & Drum figures are reasonably priced at $1.80 USD per foot. I plan to start a July 4th Promotion called "Figures for 1776 Deal". You get 12 figures for a price of $17.76 USD. That's a discount of nearly 18% off of list price. The promotion (limit three deals per customer) will run from now through Bastille Day on July 14, 2012. This is a good way to buy a sampling of figures for say a skirmish game. You could buy a dozen American Militia and a dozen British light infantry and have a go at something like Sharpe Practice without investing a lot of cash on the AWI period. check out the Fife & Drum blog for ordering information Jim |

I use that size of table when needed. I can actually fit it in my garage with room to spare. In fact we will be doing Borodino in 15mm in September over three weekends. The table will be slightly larger. Seven foot wide tables are a problem for some. I am slight of build, so that I can put my knee on the edge for support and reach right over. But I try to keep it to 6ft as much as possible. Let us know how your solo game goes and pictures please. Great looking set up. dh |

I actually find that fife and drum figures play well with others. Perry is what I mostly use. Jim, I will give the drug store a try very soon. I figure if I can read the back of an allergy medicine box, and it's fine print like I use to, then I will be good to go with painting. Matthew |
Der Alte Fritz | 26 Jun 2012 3:48 a.m. PST |
If I use the side/back tables to increase the width of the table, then I leave an aisle between the main table and the back/side tables like Gilder used at the Wargame Holiday Centre in the UK. None of the tables are wider than 6 feet. |

Great looking table. I just finished up my 28mm AWI forces (well, not completely, still need Hessians). I know I now need to build more rail fences go get enough for my tables. |

I found another box of trees and added them to the table as a final tweak. I think that I will also reduce the table to 6x9 just to see how that works out. |

Nice kit Fritz, are these 25mm? I am starting to paint 1,000 10mm for my armies of OLD GLORY and Pendraken. |
