Does anyone have any information on the swiss regiments which fought for Louis XIV? I am looking for uniforms and which regiments actualy fought?

RNSulentic19 Jun 2012 7:36 p.m. PST

Swiss Regiments in the French Army, from C.A. Sapherson's "Marlburian Armies 1701-1721:
Castellas
Villars
Brendle
Greder Suisses
Surbeck
May
Courten
Pfieffer
Vigier

I seem to remember that May was in red coats with blue cuffs. I think the Swiss tended to wear red in French service.

That's a start, anyway.

The following were in the French OBAT at Ramillies:

Swiss Guards
Greder
Villars
Castellas
Hessy
Pfyffer

Half the swiss were still in blue at the time of Ramillies.

You cannot beat the Hall plates. There is a CD of French uniforms available.
