The Defensibility of Cinderella Castle?

picture

It appears to have no room for troop gathering. On the other hand it also appears to have only small sections of wall that could be scaled, thus easily defended.

On the other hand…

Well, it is more defensible than the 25th Anniversary version, so they are making improvements. ;-)

It's also got a tunnel network with sally ports at key locations around the vast area inside the outer curtain walls. Not to mention a large variety of troop conveyances and stores for months.

Well, it has round towers, plenty of windows to shoot from, and very little room to scale the walls. It certainly isn't the worst castle to hold. :)

I'll be there later this summer (or wait; maybe I'm doing Sleeping Beauty's castle… which one is in Anaheim?). Either way, I will reconnoitre and reply with a full strategic and tactical assessment.

Sleeping Beauty's Castle is in Anaheim. It has a moat.

I've been to Neuschwanstein Castle on which Cinderella's is based and even though it is a romantic interpretation of a medieval castle, it is not as indefensible as the Disneyland version suggests.

First, you must climb up 1000 meters along a twisty path where horse drawn carriages to this day still lose control and go crashing downhill.

Then you must cross a deep ravine over running water on an iron bridge.

Then you must pass beneath the castle walls to get to the opposite side where there is a gatehouse.

After you take down the gatehouse defenses, you find yourself in a courtyard defended on all sides by a second set of walls.

Not something I would want to undertake, even with several months preparation.

Mickey got an attitude problem, and a serious 'recoil therapy device'!

Where I had my honeymoon – the wife was 'Oooh this is Lovely' whereas I was always wondering how long it would take the Barbarians to get in through those ground-floor windows.

Well not always, but a lot of the time I was…….

"Happy Darling?"
"mutter mutter…. stockpile of stones on the roof? Maybe a crossbow? Hmmm? Oh, Oh yes!, ecstatically happy my beloved…"

Well, Bunkermeister … Half a moat. Only in the front. BUT the drawbridge DOES work!

I think it can be EASILY defended for two reasons:
1) Security is TOP NOTCH in DisneyWorld. You ever try to cause havok there? They are 'johnny on the spot'! Trust me.

2) For an army to assault the castle, they would have to buy a ticket to get into the park first. So at $94.79 USD for.. lets say 3000 troops, would be $284,370.00 USD. And that does not add in parking, food or souvenir Mickey Mouse ears.
It would not be cost effective.

Cinderella's Castle would be easier to defend than you might think, especially with an annual average of 43,836 human shields available each day for your own personal protection insurance. In addition, more than half of these are small in size, and thus better suited for hurling or catapulting over the walls at any invader.

Yep, Sleeping Beauty is the target of my assault plans.
Wait, that didn't come out right…

HA HA! Lots of great responses here!

The 25 year version would cause diabetes in any attacking force…

The high ticket prices at the gates tends to keep most of the scum out…. ;-)

Disney released some collectible ornaments of several of their castles 10 or more years ago. I got lucky and scored some of them at a flea market for next to nothing – usually they go for big bucks on the second-hand/collectibles market. They scale well with Man O' War miniatures, roughly 1/1000 scale. They've never fallen in any of my games. :)

I got Cinderella's Castle (Bretonnia):

The Beast's Castle (Empire):

And Sleeping Beauty's Castle (High Elf):

They also made Snow White's Castle, the Sultan's Palace from Aladdin, and Triton's Castle from The Little Mermaid. I might try to track those down some day.
