I maybe totally mis-remembering, but I thought there was a set of Renaissance-esque rules based on Leonardo da Vinci's warmachine drawings (if the Duke of Milan had build tanks, etc...). Perhaps it wasn't a wargame, but I do remember seeing a book, and thought it was a game oriented one. I have tried to do some searches to find something, but to no avail. Does anybody else remember the book/rules? Am I just mis-remembering things (I don't think I am getting senile yet, but anything is possible :) Thanks, Joe |

"Leonardo Plus"? The rules are not that good. They are in fact overly complicated over such trivia as keeping track of separate casualties for horses and men, with a phase allowing you to match up riderless horses with horseless riders. There is surprisingly little in the rules covering Leonardo machines, though. The best part of the book, though, is the diagrams and building hints for real Leonardo mechanisms. For this alone, the rules are invaluable. These should be easily adopted to just about ANY Renaissance era rules set. HOTT is another natural. One of my vague future plans is to do a GASLIGHT campaign adapted to the Renaissance, with Landsknechts, Gendarmes, Stadiots, Turks and Leonardo machines. |

OFM, Thanks for the lead, that is probably the right set of rules (good to know I am not totally offbase :), also thanks for your feedback on the rules (always appreciated). It looks like we are thinking along similar lines, I was thinking about using Leonardo's inventions in my VSF armies, to stiffen the "natives". I'll go see if I can dig up a copy ofthe rules. Thanks, Joe

"'Leonardo Plus'? The rules are not that good." Yeah, my friend Pete Frechtling runs Leonardo Plus at just about every major HMGS East Coast convention. He has been tinkering with those rules for ages. Also, "Virtue Against Fury" Renaissance rules contains Leonardo's machines as an option. They are not nearly as complex and predate Leonardo Plus. I ordered a copy from UK a couple of years ago. I think it was from Caliver Books, but I am not certain. If you find a copy, they are worth the investment. John |

David Kuijt put together a description of a DBA Da Vinci variant. Bear in mind it is based on older versions of the DBA rules, but that shouldn't matter too much. link From Fanaticus, rules for Da Vinci tanks in DBA: link |

I seem to remember looking at a very nicely painted group of figures for a Da Vinci fantasy army using the HOTT rules. These are DBA style fantasy rules and would give a fun, simple game using the Da Vinci designs! Search on the internet and you can find the article I speak of. www.fanaticus.org is probably a great place to start the search! |

I think the original "Leonardo" type rules were in a rules set called: "Virtue Against Fury." |
