I am thinking about starting up in this period. I have nothing at all now and am looking for recommendations as to: 1. Which manufacturer(s) would you recommend? 2. How compatable are the various manufacturers? Any help greatly appreciated! Andy |

I myself am a great fan of the Front Rank miniatures, you should check their website, really lovely miniatures |

The most extensive range and complete in my view is Front Rank, plus you can buy the figures you want, no packs and discounts are available. I have all my stuff from them but do intend to have a look at some Ebor miniatures at some time in the future. All the best, Mark. |

I will jump on the bandwagon and say that I like Front Rank, their range is good (but not complete) and you can buy just the figures you need. I like the look of Ebor, but still have not decided if I should buy some. I really like the animation in the old Wargames Foundry figures, but they are not available anymore. The new figures from Wargames Foundry are at best OK, but some tend to garbage and trash, they are hopelessly out of scale with the previous range (for example standing a hat taller!) If I had to start again I would mix Foundry figures (some are nice, especially if bought at an open day or similar discount rate) with Front Rank, and use some of the (plastic) Wargames Factory Foot troops that no one seems to love enough to add some variety to the proceedings. Cavalry – I like the New Foundry heavy cavalry, and intend to use some to bulk out some of my guards, I like some of the Front Rank, and will use some as line, some as some nationalities of guards. I quite like conversions of the Pike and Shotte cavalry plastics from Warlord as certain types of cavalry, and have converted about 10 boxes of plastic cavalry from Wargames Factory as the sword arm was not (quite right). I do like some of the vignettes from foundry, and I have a need for larger gun crews so I am still holding out for a better range of Mattrosses than either Front Rank or Foundry have done – I do not think that 4 men crewing a gun looks right – and will aim for one varient of a game to have 12 models doing the job. I wonder if anyone can convince Ebor to do waistcoated and shirt sleeve gunners labouring with the guns, bringing barrels up, hauling shot, measuring powder, and many other jobs that go on around a battery. |

My money is going with Ebor. Front Rank is very good, but I personally prefer Ebor. |

I HAVE EBOR FOR MY DUTCH WONDERFULL FIGURES AND WELL PRICED |

If metal price and weight are no issue, then indeed Front Rank should provide all you could want. If either might be of import, then look at Wargames Factory's generic plastics before committing – people have been posting shots of rather nice units built from them. |

Musketier your taste in figures is excellent. It exactly coincides with my own! |

+1 for Front Rank, and virtual +1 for Ebor. All of my figs are FR. I'm painting some now actually. A pleasure to paint. I'm hoping he adds French Guard du Corps cav and Spanish foot to his range. Site says he plans to fill some gaps. If you go to the Ebor site you'll see a size comparison of Ebor and FR. I like the looks of the Ebor figs from the pics but haven't held one, so it's a virtual +1. |

1st Front Rank 2nd Northstar 3rd Ebor 4th Warfare Front and Northstar are good together. Ebor and Warfare are good together. Raglan |

And just in case you don't have enough choices. I have supplemented my Wargames Factory plastics with Old Glory officers and artillery. If you have one of their Army Cards it brings their prices down to very competitive levels. |

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions! I shy away from plastic because I hate to put the figures together. Based on the recommendations I am going to buy one or two figures from the suggested manufacturers to base my decision on. Love the TMP community! |

just noticed this thread and thought I'd let you know that I will be adding the Spanish foot to the webstore on the weekend and these will be followed in the next couple of weeks by the Spanish and Walloon guards which will be followed by French and Swiss Guards, also Iain at flags of war is doing a range of flags for the new figures. cheers Nick |
