From this thread; TMP link I have spent a bit more time working on the building and think I have almost figured it out how the basic look is going to be for the others I have started. I have added; a extra VCR tape as a "Cap" Sandpaper for the roofing Ledges for the center windows built a stairwell and steps built some HO scale AC units for clutter Added a electric meter to the side of the building added a front door. Taking inspiration from South African slums I painted the front in a pastel green(others will see blue, green, red and yellow)
Still need to continue painting, and the problem point of the right hand side. I might paint the poles as lights or I might cover the area like the left side. I am also debating cutting them out and making it into more windows. C&C always welcome. DZT |

I like the problem area on the right. Could be lights, or a heating/cooling unit of some sort, or a security feature. That's what's cool about sci-fi buildings, not everything has to be immediately relatable. |

This looks great. Now I'm imagining skyscrapers made the same way. |

I'm already busily dismanteling all my old VHS tapes , I really like where this is going. Could you show us some shots from the other side of the building please? Oh and also bump on the truck! |

CC – I was given a stack of Vietnamese action films from a guy at work who said they had subtitles. I got a box of Japanese soaps with no subtitles. Otherwise I wouldn't have had any either as well :) I got the truck from Crimelord in a 15mm swap. It was unreleased then don't know if it ever did. Here is his shop link I think. acpgames.com/topics/products The back doesn't have anything done to it yet as I am trying to figure out how to make some windows. |

Here is the back and side though.
I'd love to see others takes on this too! |

These are pure genius! I have a whole box of old VCR tapes somewhere. |

I hit the local used music and video store and picked their collection for exercise tapes. Fifty cents each. I will probably stack mine only three tapes high to avoid dead spaces between them on large table. The back side could be tricked out with balcony and stairs and exterior doors. |

Slum apartments? Don't need windows. Paint some chipped paint effects and then the bottom 1/3rd tag it with graffiti. Or make it a slum lord and back it up to another stack of tapes. If you still want to spice it up on the side and back add gutters or even little bits for cameras and lights. Or even more simple. Find an image of a movie poster. Print to size and now you have a billboard. |

I'll say it again, pure genius and I actually think the plain back gives it a derelict urban feel which I would stick with, superb. What did you use for the a/c units on the side? So want to have a go at this for some Neo Sov apartment blocks, its such a brilliant idea. |

I shall steal this idea. With a credit, obviously A truely great idea. Many thanks. John T |

Walthers Cornerstone Modulars make the AC units. link I have broke out the small tabs to make a single small window on each level in the back and have been looking at graffiti examples. Steal away – I am glad others found this useable! |

Very nice, and thanks for the comparison shot with the MW mech! I think if I emphasize the join between the two halves, I could make each tape look like two stories for 10mm (or 6mm) gaming. Here's another take from Necromundicon. ironhands.com/gundam.htm He's using audio casette tapes for something closer to 6mm(?) gundam gaming, but there's alot of transferable ideas.
Anyone who needs free tapes, just go behind your half priced books store (or other used book store) and you'll find a dumpster with a ton of VHS taps. Not to mention alot of good books also

A couple of the other WIP's that are on my table right now.
ordinarybass – I've followed that site for ages and never seen that stuff as I am not in the gundum gaming. Thanks for pointing it out. Shame I don't have any cassette tapes to try it out.
Might have a couple of 8 tracks in my in-laws belongings we haven't sorted through yet! I hope to have at least one finished completely before the weekend is up! |

Very nice progress. In the picture of the 'new' brown building, the addition of the vertical strip of windows and doors is what you need to add more of to reinforce the scale of the building. It changes the look from a stack of VCR tapes into an actual scale building. In those 'recessed' spaces, like in the center of the brown building, add some outdoor patio/balconies for a figure to stand on and have an elevated line of fire for anyone approaching the building. Have you tried working with the 'plastic canvas' or 'granny plastic' to creat strips of gridded windows and doors?
