After all, the shacks/huts are tiny and seem half-buried into the side of the dirt roads anyway, right? YouTube link Seen: 00:00-00:22 03:31-03:58 05:16-05:45 Also seen here, at 05:44-05:57: YouTube link Or are they all supposed to be just small topside entrances to big underground rooms like the bar seen here, 01:50-02:15? YouTube link I know it would have been too much for the show's budget but, if a settlement's biggest asset is mud, you'd expect the houses to be made of the stuff, right? Dan |

For "mudders" I would have expected something like a mud dome hut or something:
link link Would that be cool to make for 15mm, but with some corrugated sheets and a few metal bits here and there, just to make it more SF-ish? Dan |

Nah, if you recall, the "mud" was actually very unique and valuable; when kilned it was harder than, well, whatever they said in the episode. I would have thought that makes it too valuable to use as slave/worker quarters

Like Mardaddy said, the mud was far too valuable to make slave laborers homes from. It was used on space craft! From the looks of what is seen in the show I don't think those could possibly be topside entrances. They seem far too low to the ground, almost more akin to Tents or lean-to's than anything else. And from the chairs and other paraphenalia hanging around outside many of them I'm further led to believe that it's likely they're tent-type structures. |

The homes are actually dug out. Mudders live beneath ground where the mud has already been extracted. Has a psychological impact to be forced to live beneath ground and lessens casualties from heat injury. Don't keep folks happy but they are alive for another shift. |

Well was setting up for It Came From Beyond the Still, And Adam Baldwin sat down and we talked about the game, what work he was up to, and life. Really cool guy, did not pester him for pic or signing anything as this was a rest time for him. My wife did get his signature later when he had his formal signing. He said the huts were lumber, plywood, and roughed up sheeting. And the water on the set was really nasty stuff. |
