I'm doing a centerpiece for my elf army, and most of the big ol' dragons out there are metal. Does anyone have any suggestions for a dragon in plastic that could serve as a mount? The Games Workshop Dark Elf dreadlord on black dragon is a near perfect example… Except it's too big! (and since it's GW, a bit pricey too) I'd love to find something a bit bigger than a cold one/ big horse, but not nearly as big as that fella. Big metal figs are out, as metal is too fragile, and too hard to store. I've got young kids, so it's gotta be a bit sturdier!

Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you wanted to go large I would recommned the Todd McFarlane Dragons. They are pretty big though so might not be what you are looking for…. However. They are plastic, pre-painted very well, and relatively cheap at $15 USD or so. Sculpt on a seat and put a rider on one and it would be truly impressive.

D&D miniatures have a couple mounted dragons

You could also search ebay for "Mage Knight dragons" and you should find several possibilities. If you're careful they should run you less than $20 USD (I see one at $4 USD) and they're practically indestructible. McFarlane's are generally prettier, but tend toward higher prices IME.

Why not have a look at Mirilton for the old Grenadier Dragons, they are still reasonably priced

Michael's Arts and Crafts has a fairly large range of dragons in the $10 USD-15 range.

The Mage Knight dragons are awesome, but they're HUGE.

There's also the Heroscape dragons… Mimring was pretty common so he should be easy to find.

The Safari dragons, from Michael's, are probably larger than what you want, but they're nicely painted, plastic, and tough. They also have a fantastic selection suitable for D&D types: Green (Forest), Red (Mountain), White (Cloud, or Ice?), a Gold (Oriental, gold colored), and even a couple of Hydras (one with three heads, and one with five heads?).

You can preview them at Amazon.com. Just type in, "Safari Dragon", in the search entry, and take a look. Papo makes some nice ones, as well. Cheers!

And they are netal, which the OP was not looking for. That said, the one Grenadier dragon that I own seems relatively sturdy.

As for plastics, Zvezda produced a plastic set for dragon(s) in the Ring of Rule series, but that is now discontinued – though there might be still some left with various retailers.

Ditto on what the other guys said about the dragons that Michael's carries. Those things are outstanding. Picked up several for my RPG.

Mantic's Elf Dragon Rider is probably around the size you're looking for. As for price, I haven't a clue.

Mantic's Elf Dragon Rider is exactly what I'd like… in plastic.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into some of those!

Papo make some nice dragons, around the size you want and my 3 generations of kids have yet to break one. They are a good price too. When the kids grow out of them daddy is going to comendeer the 60+ knights and shed lods of beasties for gaming purposes……

2nd the Micheal's, don't have one but a big dragon fan and look at them when I pass, and should be kid handling proof
